Yeah. I figure I've only got about two or three dozen albums potentially worth the hassle of setting up selling, and they were two of them.
From this site: each album comes with a download card for “HD digital redemption” of the catalogue. Does that mean this mastering will be available in hi-res digital, or just a digital copy of the existing hi-res versions? Edit: Hmmm. HDTracks does not have any of these albums, with the exception of Blue and Lonesome and Some Girls.
How does half speed mastering make it a bit better? The half speed of Exile is mediocre. Half-speed is just a different cutting method - it has its benefits and drawbacks. But it’s still garbage in, garbage out if the source isn’t great.
I have some pretty decent eqpt and some pretty crappy eqpt. The recent Exile and B&L both sound meh on all of them.
I'm still miffed that the mono albums have not been made available individually. And now this, with probably the same all-or-nothing approach. It's crazy that a band as big as the Stones continue to keep their vinyl releases so restricted. No other mega stars have done this (have they?). And it's not simply a matter of cost. As someone here commented, half these albums are good. There are some I have no interest in buying, which makes buying the entire box both annoying and wasteful.
I don’t have a lot of confidence they will remaster Exile again either. The recent Sticky Fingers didn’t sound very good either IMO. The 1/2 speed mastering isn’t helping.
Well, except for the three post-1990 LPs prior to Blue & Lonesome, these were originally mastered on vinyl by top tier engineers, sold in the bajillions and are fairly easy to find in really good condition...
The indication here is that these are all brand-new remasters from "vinyl specific" tapes; the previous Abbey Road half-speed vinyl was from the same source as the 2010 digital remaster No idea yet if the HD download card includes these new remasters or something else
Sticky Fingers was half speed? Actually I think they will re-cut Exile and Sticky, but I could easily be wrong. My guess is the entire set will either be quite good or quite mediocre.
Also, not sure if anyone has looked all around for the best price. I haven't had a chance to look yet. I'm all about getting the latter day Stones without shelling $100 for just a single LP.
I was incorrect. Sticky wasn’t done at Abbey Road...not at 1/2 speed. Mastered by Steven Marcussen, pressed at MPO.
If it does, it would be digitally sourced copies of records available mostly for $5 and $10 in original analog versions. So, not sure about what the appeal is.
