The current issue of Shindig has an article on Ronnie Lane with the statement: "Next year Universal will issue Horse and Trousers, a box set featuring Ronnie's four solo albums plus unreleased songs and alternate takes." Anyone have and info on this? I can't find anything beyond this article. Really, really hope this happens!
There's also some discussion of it here (nothing concrete but as much as anyone is saying for now): Small Faces "Autumn Stone" Box Set Coming (Soon?)
Ive seen nothing, maybe if we all emailed the record company we might get something going here peace and love✌Dave
Two recent comments from the The Ronnie Lane Appreciation Group on Facebook "Update on the Ronnie box set. I was told, artwork was delivered last week. However, they are waiting to hear from a name who may want to contribute." "I spoke to the lady yesterday who is doing the box set that it's delayed but I cant say any more at the moment incase I'm not allowed but it's definitely coming folks."
I met Ronnie Lane on Halloween in 1990 in Austin, Texas. He was a cool dude. I didn't talk to him for very long. He did find fault with me however on the subject of discipline. Ronnie Lane stood for having fun! He never believed that crafting one's art in music should ever be considered something that required discipline. He said: "Ya just doooo it!" I never forgot that quotation. He was absolutely right on that one.
The funny thing is that he was very accomplished in his craft. I guess the irony was that he didn't consider it a chore or a way to make ends meet. He did what he did because he loved it. I told him at that time something to the effect that you had to have a lot of discipline to become successful or something like that....I was young after all.....He said it wasn't about that to me.
Thank you for this, I'd love to hear more stories about Ronnie - one of the more interesting characters from the '60s and on in my book
I can't wait see this out. Ronnie was one of the all-time greats. With the 70s albums, the BBC recordings and a smattering of outtakes this should be a massive release. If liner notes by a name contributer are the holdup, I'd say who cares. As long as Townshend chimed. Don't need Rod Stewart or Woody to validate Lane.
Ive been listening to a lot of Ronnie’s music lately. Certainly hope this materializes. Anyone heard anything?
not a doggone thing. such a crime how his brilliant catalog is so mishandled. Been listening to him lately too. this time of year I always seem to listen to him. just fits with Fall/Winter somehow.
