Thanks for the heads up, but I already (re-)bought it from JPC.DE about two weeks ago when the re-pressings hit stores. With a holiday voucher from the store it did cost me about 45 euros (~$60) shipped which is a very generous offer. Now I'm really hoping it won't get lost in the postal black holes for the second time (albeit JPC.DE have ALWAYS delivered the goods, so far)... Next week should probably clarify this.
I don't consider them prog myself, but I know a lot of people who do, and their appearance on that prog rock box set whose name escapes me at the moment certainly bolsters the case. I can kind of see the description applying to some of the stuff on the Eno albums. For what it's worth, I don't consider Pink Floyd to be prog either, but I think I'm alone in the world on that one.
Ladytron starts with Mellotron. Mellotrons a are noisy, hissy beasts. Also, if the mellotron in question used the CMC-10 motor control card, it adds a nice high pitched whine and even more hiss. Basically, hiss is part of the track.
As someone who generally hates cd's, I have to say these are the most pleasant sounding cd's I've bought in years. This set is amazing. Wish it had a booklet of lyrics and pictures. But for sound, it's perfect. The headroom and to tonality is perfect.
Okay. This is weird. I went to order this last night and saw 28 new copies available from various Amazon sellers. I clicked on "add to cart" and suddenly ALL of them vanished, and the set was listed as completely unavailable. Today, all of them are STILL gone but the box is listed as available for "pre-order" for a February 5th issue. HUH?!?
I have the Denon DVD-3910 and these discs play just fine on it for me. (At least I'm pretty sure I have been playing them all on my Denon DVD-3910, rather than my Sony Blu-Ray player, which I sometimes use to play CD-R compilations, etc., in an effort to preserve the aging innards of my higher-quality Denon player.) Craig.
Let me just add my voice to the chorus of praise for the sound quality on these discs. Word is that they are straight transfers, and they sound lovely, even if Flesh & Blood has such low volume that it's actually somewhat annoying.

The thing is they just didn't ram loads of compression on it like with those plain obnoxious 1999 Bob Ludwig remasters. I think Flesh+Blood is a bit of a rough album in terms of production. I think they goofed the mixes a little, I want Ferry's vocal just 1 dB more forwards sometimes. I also think that there's a bit much top end on the album, things like the end of "Over You" that Sax and keyboard start to screech up the top. Of course my opinion. It's certainly not "such low volume" though. Hey, you have a volume knob if you ant it louder
I get the hobby and scientific evaluation, but I personally never had the interest to look at recorded music this way. If I love the sound and the music, then that's all I need. I suspect some of my favorite records would look "off" if put under this scrutiny. I'm not scoffing at the hobby, but just never interested me.
