Has this news been made public in any major publications? I haven’t seen any reports about his passing.

A terrible shame. I loved his playing. May he rest in peace.

I'm streaming Randy Brecker's terrific new release-Together as consolation. I'll dive into Roy later.

What a tragic loss. I played this track endlessly when it came out. It fit so many moods. Just an excellent groove, with a killer intricate single note guitar line, and of course a stunning trumpet solo. Quite sad.

We always played his cd's in-store in our satellite music store. We played as much new release Jazz and R&B as we could and his was always at the top of any playlist. Fond memories of his music and his role and place in Jazz at the time and since. Sorry for his passing. He passed along 'things' (his music and playing) that will remain.

He really carried on so many traditions from the likes of Brownie and Lee Morgan.

How tragic, he was a major talent. I saw him live a few years ago and it was a great show.

Far too young to be gone.

Diamond in the Rough is one my favorite jazz albums, period. He was one of the young turks who kept jazz alive when everyone was saying it was long dead. The new kids owe a nod to Roy, and his generation of jazz musicians, for being able to attract label attention, today.

Earfood is one of my favorite recordings to come out of recent years, this is a truly horrible loss, especially given how young he was. RIP Roy, we'll miss you.

How depressing! I think of him as an up-and-coming star. He has such an exquisite tone. I usually don't like albums with horns and strings, but his Moment to Moment album is wonderfully beautiful for the purity of his playing. So sad.
