  2. It looks like Sony/Legacy is giving Roy the same treatment they've done for Elvis recently. Take classic Roy vocals and record new backing tracks for them. The Elvis albums turned out fairly well.

Will the vocals be lifted from the rerecords he did of his hits in the 1980s? I really like those performances and imagine they are easier to isolate than the original versions.

Basically it's the same team who worked on the Elvis RPO albums, only this time it's with Orbison. Looks like his sons (and 10 month old grandson ) are guest starring on a few tracks. Wasn't very keen on the Elvis RPO albums myself so I don't know how this will turn out.

    Tracklist:

    1. "In Dreams"
    2. "Crying"
    3. "I'm Hurtin'"
    4. "Oh, Pretty Woman" (feat. Alex, Wesley, Roy Jr., Roy III)
    5. "It's Over"
    6. "Dream Baby" (feat. Alex, Roy Jr.)
    7. "Blue Angel"
    8. "Love Hurts"
    9. "Uptown" (feat. Alex Orbison)
    10. "Mean Woman Blues" (feat. Alex, Roy Jr.)
    11. "Only the Lonely"
    12. "Running Scared"
    13. "I Drove All Night" (feat. Alex Orbison)
    14. "You Got It"
    15. "A Love So Beautiful" (feat. Alex Orbison)

Wow. That's a very imaginative tracklisting. Must have taken them all of 10 minutes to come up with those songs...

One thing that I repeat since the 90's.... The 1987 re-recorded album called "In Dreams: The Greatest Hits"..... Wow, that's a so bad produced album...

Roy Orbison - In Dreams: The Greatest Hits

Bongos out of tune, dull and spiritless vocals... problems with the mixing of instruments... They should really take the vocals from this album and add a real quality background music to it, to make it sound like Mystery Girl/King of Hearts albums. Call Jeff Lynne, I dont know....

Now, I learn they will use some vocal tracks to make.... THIS... instead???

Com'on, this must be a joke.

That's so far from what Roy was.

I just hope one thing... that this project will help "Roy's boys" to make money to help them realize BETTER project in the future.

    I really hope.

BTW It appears I'm also a fan of Joe Dassin and they did the same thing... using his vocal tracks and adding them to an orchestral ensemble. That's awefull. I hope they will never do that with Charles Aznavour!

I've read that Roy Orbison III will be playing guitar and tambourine. How exactly does a 10-month old baby do that?

I'm ambivalent about the "add new orchestra to existing vocal tracks" approach. I thought it worked on a few tracks on that Elvis album...

The track list couldn't be more boring and predictable. The only (barely a) surprise is Drove All Night.

The fact that Roy's Boys felt the need to get themselves inserted into this project is the icing on a pretty unappealing cake...

The only track that intrigues me is Love Hurts.

Because Roy didn't re-recorded this song in the 1987 album (I assume all the other tracks features his 1987 vocal tracks, instead of the 60's original versions).

Could Love Hurts be a left-over of the 1987 sessions?

Of course, we can add musical tracks over a 60's songs too... but I think it's better when we have an isolated vocal track...

    Nothing is impossible...

I liked the Elvis albums a lot but if this uses re-recorded vocals from the 80's that could be bad (I would prefer the original records be used if possible).

I'm on the fence about this- it could be great, or it could be pretty awful. It depends a lot on some variables. :)

I love how the press release says this is to "ensure his legacy" or whatever- as if he was in some danger of being forgotten.

What they should have said is "This is our attempt to ride the coattails of the Elvis releases because hey, money!". :)

    Money (That's All I Want) :)

The important thing is: the "sect" will love this new album... they love everything Roy's boys do and you can't say anything against them, because... well... Amen.

As I read on the FB page of the sect, this album is an angel blessing. :D

I don't really like the concept of it either but, sometimes good music appears.

The music was already good to begin with. :)

The added orchestration might turn out good overall or with some of the songs, but on the other hand it might make them sound really cheesy. We shall see. :)

Look at it this way- if this ends up being awful we at least still have the original recordings to go back to. :)

Forget I think they simply used the 60's vocal track.

I heard it here (at about 1 h 44): BBC Radio 2 - Ken Bruce, Dan Walker chooses the Tracks of My Years
