I'm seeing a lot of comments about price gouging in the other threads. Just curious what some of the prices are that people saw or paid.

My pull from Vintage Vinyl (NJ):

    DMB Live Trax: $119.99
    REM Box: $89.99
    Yardbirds: $19.99
    Jerry Garcia: $31.99
    Zombies: $19.99 (each)
    Jake Bugg: $11.99

    I suspect PREX was lower.

    Prices I didn't pay:

    Donny Hathaway £40
    Sex Pistols £75
    Otis Redding £29
Sun Ra Live In New york £29
    Terminator 7" £13
    JBs £32
I think the Andy Smith box was £62 or £65
    REM Unplugged £40

I did pay £29 for Gil Scott-Heron, many other records although not so extreme were £3 - £5 more than similar items on the same labels last year and I didn't see a 7" below £10 although I wasn't looking very hard at the sevens. I think last year many 7"s were around £7, already too much, but well below this year's prices, likewise last year some 12"s were £7, this year the only one I saw below £10 was the Pet Shop Boys.

I was in New Zealand so the prices will obviously be a bit higher than you guys but there was some serious price hiking on some items:

Notorious BIG - $89.95, thought this was exorbitant! Figure rhino will repress as they did for the first Biggie album at around $25 cheaper. It was white vinyl though and 3 lps.
    Taang Box - $110
    Outkast - $60

The majority of releases were around the $40 mark, which is about right for albums here.

Wow, I thought vintage vinyl charged reasonable prices, but those are higher than I paid for the same items at Scotti's in Summit.

Garcia was $29.99, DMB was $89.99. Most other prices I paid were a dollar or two above list.

From what I understand, a store, according to the pledge they sign, is allowed to charge up to 20% over list without repercussions.

That's way high for the DMB. The 5 LP set last time was less and the black was even cheaper after RSD.
The others are inline with what I saw.

    Rockabye baby 17
    July 17
    Idle Race 20
    VSQ Pinkerton 20
    Waylon 7" 9
    Fleetwood 7" 7
    All USD

although I didn't get anything as the store here had a very poor selection the prices were as normal for Switzerland very expensive, albums were around the 40-45 Chf mark and 7" around 20 Chf

Prex posted a video of their line this morning. You couldn't pay me to stand in that.

Bought no RSD stuff at all today - the only ones on my wishlist that I saw were the Allman's Beacon double LP (a very reasonable £25, but I wasn't in the mood) and the Fleetwood Mac 7" at an utterly extortionate £14!!! (that's $23.50 in US dollars)

NB. Not having a go at the retailer: they base their prices on the supplier wholesale which, in this case, was disgusting.

$19 each for the Charles Lloyd and Wes Montgomery 10 inchers. (Overpriced IMHO)
$32 for the Black Crowes w/Page Live At The Greek

They seemed like the going rate and Dimples is not known for gouging at these events. Not related to RSD but they have a copy of JJ Cale's Troubador on QMP for $43 and the online stores are asking $30. I'm not sure why there copy is significantly more and I haven't asked but no way am I paying that kind of dosh when I have a great sounding original.
I doubt the record could better enough to warrant that hefty price tag.

  15. Seriously????

I was disappointed to see the Kings of Leon single was $22 and the Nirvana reissue of Penny Royal Tea was $29.99. Wasn't planning to buy either but $30 bucks for a single seems crazy to me.

Two of the people I'd been talking to in the queue, people who had been there since around 5am, wanted the Sex Pistols, neither of them bought a copy, which is hardly surprising at that price, 7 x Sex Pistols 7"s were £75, whilst I got the 7" box I wanted, £25 for 5 x 7"s and that was limited to 500 copies, somebody, label, distributor or retailer is definitely price gouging. The shop I was in still had the Sex pistols when I left at about 9.30am, that says a lot about how people reacted to the price, I'm sure they sold out eventually, but that doesn't make the price right.

I think I got the REM price wrong in my earlier post, actually I think it was £42, I only noticed because someone from the queue wanted it and when I saw it I held it up to show him, again he decided against it because of the cost, another genuine music fan disappointed on RSD.

I didn't pay $16 for the Bowie single. I had it in my hand, but couldn't make myself buy it.

I put several things back due to price -- same as yourself, I have my own thresholds and it just wasn't worth what was being asked. Example: The Frightened Rabbit Live EP (which was 4 songs) I saw for $23 which I thought was really over-the-top so that one I'll wait until I see a better price. If ever.

MGMT's "Oracle Spectacular", on the other hand, I saw for $20 USD so I found that to be a very fair price and bought it.

    Grateful Dead - 45
    Zombies Odessey - 25
    Camera Obscura - 14
    Aerosmith Rocks - 24
Katy Perry Pix Disc - 32. This was a special request from my little one and the great people I met in line told me they would grab it if they saw it before me. We coordinated what we were after.
