Revolver shot down Sgt. Pepper but now it takes on a more impressive heavyweight. Which do you prefer?

I like Pepper over Revolver and Revolver over Rubber Soul (in both polls).

    Revolver. But it's close

  5. Rubber Soul by a slight margin to me. Both albums are excellent. Both trounce all future Beatles albums except perhaps Magical Mystery Tour.

Revolver for me. I personally prefer the US version of Rubber Soul to the original UK version. "I've Just Seen a Face" is a perfect opener and fits the texture of the album better than "Drive My Car." I love the way "Girl" follows "It's Only Love" in the same key. Not sure if it was a happy accident or if someone at Capitol finally developed some aesthetic sense, but the US Rubber Soul is the closest they came to making a folk album. It's great, but Revolver (UK version) still gets the edge for overall brilliance.

Boy, they're both filled with great songwriting and arrangements. They each have the obligatory Ringo song. But Revolver gets the edge because, well, the songs as a whole are edgier. Rubber Soul has "Norwegian Wood" and "Run For Your Life", but "Taxman", "Here, There and Everywhere", "He Said, She Said," "Love To You", "For No One", "I Want To Tell You," "Tomorrow Never Knows" - these are stunning songs and each ahead of their time, in their own way. Both albums, though, are as solid as solid can be.

Now this, I can't decide on. Uhhhhhhhhhh..... Revolver? Rubber Soul? Revolver? Rubber Soul? Aaaghh. Revol-Rubber Sou-Revolver.

Rubber Soul has Norwegian Wood, but Revolver has Tomorrow Never Knows. I voted for Revolver, but I'm wishing I could change that, now. Tomorrow, I'll probably be content with my decision, or maybe not. These two really truly are side by side for me. It's impossible for me to decide once and for all.

More like volume 1 and volume 2. They both go up to 11 though.

Always have Rubber Soul as my favorite since being a kid. Revolver is really innovative. They are The Beatles best two albums.

Revolver for me. I love the Beatles and I like Rubber Soul a good bit, but I've never understood the praise it gets by so many.

I remember I took a trip once and it felt like the perfect disc to listen to while driving though.

    I should try that again.

That's another thing I've never gotten. I've never viewed them as similar.

    Which is fine, just saying.

I like them equally also, but the OP asked our opinion on which is "Stronger", I voted Revolver!

Rubber Soul has 'In My Life' so I went with that one.

Revolver is the defacto Beatles album of choice for the last thirty years or so. Rolling Stone may still pimp for Sgt. Pepper's but in most polls I've seen, it's Revolver all the way. My favorite is still The White Album though.

The US vs. UK versions make for a whole 'nother argument, like UK Revolver vs. US Rubber Soul, or whatever. Right? I mean, what are we actually comparing?

I still voted for Revolver so fast I think I pulled a muscle.

Here's the thing though. I spent the first 20 years of listening to those albums as nothing like an either/or proposition. Quite the contrary. While I NOW mostly play the UK Revolver, growing up, I THEN saw the US versions of Rubber Soul, Yesterday and Today, and Revolver as the best triple album of all time. That was just intuitively, as a stupid kid, before I knew how intermingled the US albums actually were compared to the UK albums and singles, but that's how I treated them. If I went to pick up one of them I picked up all three.

    And yet....

Rubber Soul. There's only one bad track on it: Run for Your Life and it's easily skipped at the end.

Not many weak tracks on Revolver either of course but She Said She Said is a dirge and I've never much liked I Want to Tell You.

So Rubber Soul it is. But Revolver is breathing down its neck.
