Somehow i missed this thread. Looks interesting, i'll have to keep an eye on future titles. I like the detailed info they provide about pressing, jackets, mastering. Others could learn to be so transparent!
Well there's a right way and a wrong way to do a reissue label... as I mentioned, Shane at Intervention is doing it all right. He gets master analog tapes (with a few exceptions). It just takes the right people to run things. No offense to your friend, but it can be done right.
Agreed, although they never show tape reels etc. Then again Bob Irwin showed a tape reel for the mono reissue of Safe As Milk and we all know how that ended up!
No word about availability there, though it's written in the future tense so I assume its still in the works.
You are right but I guess you'd have to be supremely well connected for the likes of Universal to pull out a master tape.
Holy smokes: Golden Smog – Weird Tales 2-LP set on green vinyl, limited edition of 3,700 copies Part of the 2018 Rhino Start Your Ear Off Right campaign.
I picked up the Soul Christmas around a week ago. The cover printing is gorgeous and beautifully done. Pressing and vinyl quality was great. The transfer clearly sounds like typical digital to me. It sounds fine but a bit cold and removed. Wish someone like Kevin Gray mastered it instead.
Just received Run Out Groove's Delaney & Bonnie: Motel Shots today. Been listening to it and it's pretty great. So much soul! As for the records, top quality; flat, quiet, clean. The dynamic range is great! If there's any issues, it's most likely from the source - after all, these recordings were essentially demos recorded in a motel room, so there's gonna be limitations. But you do hear the intimacy and warmth in these records. Fantastic stuff!
I'm not sure if anybody is aware but the next release is Ministry's Greatest Fits, to be out on February 23rd. I'm tempted to pick this up but it's awfully expensive even in the US.
I was listening to the Delaney & Bonnie & Friends this morning for the first time. Had the headphones on and can say that the recording sounded very nice to my ears. No background noise at all. A great record that I highly recommend!
Elusive Disc and Acoustic Sounds are taking pre-orders for Golden Smog - Down By The Old Mainstream. I thought I had seen that this one didn’t make the cut. Elusive Disc says June. Acoustic Sounds says April. One of them has to be wrong. Hopefully their both at least 1/2 right.
I own two -- The Echo & The Bunnymen live LP and the MC5 best of. Both are beautifully packaged and have excellent sound quality. Dead quiet pressings, too. I'm loving this label and will continue to buy from them.
I just snagged this tonight at Barnes & Noble, who luckily had it on display for "new releases," otherwise I never would've looked for it. Also lucky: used member coupon for 30% off (thru Monday), so it only set me back $24. They have it online too: Professor Bizarre's Funknology
Not sure why but Amazon has both of these titles listed at $10.47. I’ve seen mixed feedback on the MC5 but I assume these would both be well worth that price.
