Well.. there is a physical resemblance. My main worry would be that he would play Freddie "over the top". My second worry would be that he wouldn't play Freddie over the top. Methinks Mr. Mercury would be a hard study for an actor in the "damned if you do and damned if you don't" mode.

How do you not play Freddie Over the Top? Over the Top would be a straight read of Mr Mercury.

Yeah but he wasn't quite as sissy as Bruno, was he?

But Sacha isn't Bruno. I think it's a good match.

He would have to remove some body hair. Other than that, I see the resemblance.

I don't know about his acting skills, but Mika seems like the closest match to Freddie Mercury as anyone on this planet.

IMHO outstanding comedy actors, just as Cohen is, can do fabulously in more serious projects. One example would be another actor who is usually associated with silly, however heroic, characters - Jim Carrey. Have you seen him acting in 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' or 'Truman Show'?

I can't wait to see the movie!

or in "23"....i loved all three of these films, and i have no doubt Sacha Cohen could more than handle Freddie, especially if they get Brian or Roger to consult and oversee....

    i can't wait, either!

definitely.... look at the resemblance, even without the mustaches:

i think he could do a serious portrayal of him, easily.... i'm all for it!

  14. I think so two, he can pull it off.

We swopped Zanzibar for Heligoland with the Germans in the 1880s.

If we hadn't Freddie would have had a German accent.......

I can totally see that. Borat with a crewcut does resemble '80s-era Mercury. He could do this.

I have a lot of faith in Mr. Cohen at doing a fine job with this. Aside from being a skilled comic actor, he seems like a very intelligent guy capable of more than what he has shown us.

Yep, Freddie couldn't be called conservative although in the beginning he didn't appear so over the top.

A few pics of Freddie I took. The top is when Queen headlined at MSG. The bottom pic was taken when they opened for Mott the Hoople on Broadway - I think only their first album was released at the time but I could be wrong.

I have plenty more but none are printed.

The second lp was out when they toured with Hoople, a friend of mine in HS saw the tour and I was insanely jealous.

I wonder how the screenplay will work. I bet it'll combine concert sequences with more intimate scenes, compressing time elements and making any sexuality questions very subtle and unoffending to middle America. As the credits roll, they'll show George Michael at the tribute singing Somebody to Love with the audience.

I hope this doesn't get Ephron-ized. Love to see it done with some edge and less finesse.

I think you might have misinterpreted my remark - I wasn't commenting on Cohen's acting skills, but on Mika's. :)

As long as it's not a whitewashed telling, i.e. not showing them playing South Africa.
I'm all for it. Is this going to be a movie about Queen or just Freddie Mercury?
