The most beautiful Sandy clip (much much much too short, alas)

Best female singer of all time. The emotion she could pour into a song...going from a whisper to a powerhouse in seconds.

Of course...writing one of the greatest songs ever “Who Knows Where the Time Goes” doesn’t hurt either...

Any artist would be ecstatic to have a beautiful song like "Who Knows Where The Time Goes" in their repertoire, but Sandy Denny wrote it when she was a quite young. Covered by everybody (an excellent version from Susanna Hoffs from one of the "Under The Covers" collections is particularly poignant), but her original haunting version from "Unhalfbricking" is the go-to. R.I.P.

Apropos thematically of my recent reading of George Saunders' excellent novel "Lincoln in the Bardo," and a showcase for both Sandy's great voice and sublime chordal sense and piano playing: "Next Time Around"

    RIP, beautiful singer.

In fact, it was the first song she ever wrote, at age 19. Unbelievable.

Oh yeah! First recorded with the Strawbs (but the Fairport version posted earlier remains definitive):

Beautiful voice, always been a fan. Like many here in the US, I first heard her sing on "The Battle of Evermore", but I never liked the way Plant's voice blended with hers. But I discovered Fairport Convention from there and was absolutely obsessed with Fairport, Sandy, Richard Thompson and the whole family tree in the early 90s. I have a hard time listening to her these days because her songs were so sad. But typing all this and thinking about Sandy just led me to put on my beat up copy of the Fotheringay record. RIP Sandy. I raise a glass to you as well.

Sandy is my favorite female vocalist ever and I just can't understand why she still hasn't had the kind of revival that Nick Drake and Bert Jansch have enjoyed. I'm baffled as to why her work hasn't been rediscovered and used in film or commercials.

Though this was already featured in the BBC clip I'm playing again. I can never listen to this song without getting a bit emotional ... just exquisite and beautiful and pure Sandy.
