I hope that it isn't just a rote rehash of their old music. I would loved to hear the old style strongly referenced as a foundation for the musical skills, maturity and sensibilities that the artists have acquired over the years.

In an exclusive with Noise11.com, Carlos Santana has confirmed he is putting the original Santana band together for his next album.

In an interview, Carlos said that he is putting the line-up from the first three albums back together for his next record. “So far we have invited the original members like Greg Rolie from the first three albums,” he told Noise11. “It will be like Santana IV because we stopped at Santana III”.

Journey’s Neal Schon broke the news of the reunion to Noise11 this week and Carlos has confirmed that he has just about everyone on board for the project. “As well as Neal we have the two Mikes, Mike Carabello and Michael Shrieve. I am pretty sure Greg’s going to do it. So that is pretty much everyone,” he says.

Bass player David Brown passed away in 2000.

According to Carlos, the album will have the African feel of the first three Santana records. “We have been checking out a lot of African music, African patterns,” he says. “Each artist has his own thing that he listens to. Led Zeppelin listened to Otis Rush. Cream listened to Freddie King and Albert King. We all had someone that we listened to. It was a beautiful common ground for Santana to play African music”.

The band will start work on the album after Carlos finishes a big year of touring that will see him head to Deniliquin in New South Wales next month for the Deni Blues and Roots Festival. He says to “expect it in 2014”.

The quote posted by Carlos states Mike Carabello is IN. David Brown passed, so what can you do?

  11. This could be great
But Schon and Santana both love
    Slick pompous production

This sounds like this has some really great potential. Obviously a thousand different waves of record company baloney, ego, insanity or a million other variables could derail it. But I am remaining positive about it until something shows up.

Earlier posts mentioned an album I had never heard of, Abraxas Pool.I had never heard of this, so thanks to you folks.

From what I have found on YouTube and other sites, I am enjoying this a lot. What are the chances of someone such as Friday Music or Wounded Bird (just throwing names out there) picking this up for a second chance in the marketplace?
To answer my own question, I imagine anyone who wants this already has it and the potential audience is the dictionary definition of "limited at best"....

Wow! I didn't see that coming! I saw them perform at The Fillmore before it was released. A more joyous group of musicians
I've never seen and the audience was going nuts. I hoped that Carlos would show up but they didn't need him. Chipito was in fine form that night but I understand he has some health issues. Alphonse Johnson played bass so maybe he's going to do the honors again. I hope they play The Fillmore and not some huge stadium. I wouldn't be surprised if they did a warm up gig there at least.

I can't imagine there won't be a tour of some kind. I also would love to see Alphonse on bass; he was tremendous on a Santana show I saw in the 80s.

Sounds good to me. I did see it on Amazon at $69 new and $20 used, (Another poster quoted the same figures), and this jsut struck me as a bit high for this release, that's all. If you see one, PM me.
    Thanks for the offer.

Being a huge fan of 1-3 this could be great...

I was disappointed with everything after 3. Caravanserai was a major change and I didn't care for it.

In conjunction with this reunion, I'd also like to see if Sony/Legacy could work something out with Carlos on a box set of unreleased live material from the '60s & '70s. I've seen various bootleg shows floating around on various websites. I'd like to see more live material that I'm sure has to to be worthy of release.
