It was another uneven show though it had some laffs. The one moment that stands out to me was Cecily Strong's acting as the troll's wife character. It wasn't funny but she had the characterization down pat. Nice bit of (ultimatley useless) acting on her part.

Reminded me very much of the Star Wars audition bit they did years ago I think with Kevin Spacey.

I thought the same thing while watching. She really is quite a talented actress.

That was the worst (and possibly longest?) sketch of an otherwise pretty decent show, but that character could be really funny in a sketch with a better premise. Strong performed it well, but the costume did at least 40% of the work.

My favorite moments were Bobby Moynihan as old Princess Leia trying to program her message into R2D2 and the surreal Michael O'Brien (welcome back to the other side of the camera, dude) grow-a-guy short. Both were pre-taped bits, but other than the troll bridge, I though the live segments were mostly pretty decent.

I enjoy some of the pre recorded SNL digital shorts ect. Many of them seem to have had a lot of work put into them, special effects, different locations ect. I am amazed that all of these can be done within the week of the show while working with the guest host. Does anyone know how such intricate and high quality mini productions can be done in such short a time span?

I liked the Mike O'Brien "Gro-A-Guy" short and I got a kick out of Vaness and Cecily's ex-porn stars Brookie and ? at the end again. That was better than the last time they did that bit. Also liked the sketch about the memories having to be abandoned.

There was a deleted Ferguson sketch that's up on their web cite that's at least worth checking out.

  10. I'm having a real hard time with the fact that so many of the music acts (regardless if I am a fan or not), are not performing live.

I really don't think there's any evidence to that.

Whoa, what's going on here? The whole show has been hilarious. Best SNL in years.

  15. During "Weekend Update" I was half-expecting they might acknowledge that the commentary on Apple's supposed lack of diversity was being delivered by the show's diversity hire, but I guess that sort of touchy meta-ness would be too much to expect.

Uh, no. You haven't been watching much if you truly believe these acts are performing "live." Going back to the Ashlee Simpson fiasco right up to tonight's guest, Charli XCX, who was CLEARLY working with, at minimum, backing tapes, there has been a long trend of "newer" acts, especially the pop tarts, whom are not actually playing "live."

The presence of backing tracks doesn't mean they aren't singing live. But I'll admit, I rarely do pay much attention to the music guests. I am paying attention now, though, and she's definitely singing live. Her "band" on the other hand...

You're problem is your definition of "performing", see? The musical acts all dance live. That is considered performing these days. At some point they'll just send up holograms of play their music video and call it a performance. Heck, Saturday Night Live has a lot of pre-recorded bits. So why should the music be live?

Glad to see Cecily was featured throughout the show last night, including her bit on
"Update". She really is extremely good. Also, laughed out loud at Kate McKinnon's quick appearance
as Keith Urban....she didn't say or do anything, but she LOOKED like him. And finally, that
going to church with your parents on Christmas filmed sketch was hilarious.

Let's not go off topic here- this subject has been debated in other threads thoroughly.

I thought this show was one of the better ones this season. I do however find myself enjoying the pre recorded bits more than the live skits. Kate and Cecily are very talented performers. Martin Freeman was excellent . Those Brits can really do American accents really well.

Gotta post it here for those who didn't see it, it's hilarious:

Of course I'm a huge fan of Keenan's "What's Up With That?" skits, dude is very funny.

Also, most female singers are just sounding like Gwen Stefani to me these days.
