I'm a SH Forum Newbie so be gentle. Apparently this is where one lists SH remaster wish lists. Being an old fart now - 50-ish - & not a musical rookie, I notice no Savoy Brown audiophile efforts coming from anywhere. There's enough premium music from the early incarnations of the band to supply the demand which will happen when this great music magically reappears ala SH. Of course I have no way of knowing about record company-publishing business but,...wouldn't it be nice?
Hi Ferd - the wish lists section has been discontinued - all such posts (and lists and polls) should now simply go in Music Corner (which is where I just now moved it). Anyways, welcome to the forum!
I like that little box of Savoy Brown that came out on PolyGram a few years back. Had all of my favorites and the mastering sounded fine. Bill Levenson compiled it. Was it in the "Chronicles" series?
You may already be aware of these CD releases, but I have the 13 Savoy Brown CDs from The Decca Record Company Limited (circa 1990-1991). They are UK releases manufactured in Germany. I am satisfied with these. Though there may be good arguements as to their value to an audiophile. Shake Down Deram 820 921-2 Getting To The Point Deram 820 922-2 Blue Matter Deram 820 923-2 A Step Further Deram 844 015-2 Raw Sienna Deram 844 016-2 Looking In Deram 844 017-2 Street Corner Talking Deram 844 018-2 Hellbound Train Deram 844 019-2 Lion's Share Deram 844 020-2 Jack The Toad Deram 844 021-2 Boogie Brothers Deram 844 022-2 Wire Fire Deram 844 023-2 Skin 'N' Bone Deram 844 024-2
I should mention that several of them come with bonus tracks For example: 'Getting To The Point' comes with "Walking By Myself", "Taste And Try, Before You Buy" and "Someday People". 'Blue Matter' gains "Grits Ain't Groceries (All Around The World)"
I really liked "JACK THE TOAD". I only found it because it was available on a quad 8 track in the '70s. Once I played it, I liked it a lot. The version on this album of the tune "Coming Down Your Way" completely blows away the 3 Dog Night version, IMHO.
I agree that Polygram's Chronicles 2-CD anthology of Savoy Brown is definitely worth picking up. The individual London CDs aren't bad either, and since they were earlier CDs, they were probably straight transfers from tape, with no added noise reduction or equalization. Ed Hurdle HeavyDistortion
I have the CD of Blue Matter. To me it sounds extremely muffled with a noticable volume rise part way thru the CD which is not on the LP. Maybe this was corrected on later issues. However, I really like the 2CD compilation.
I'm with Pablo...gotta love "Street Corner Talking". Great stuff! Sounds pretty nice on the Parrot LP. __________ AC
"Street Corner Talking" "Hellbound Train" "Raw Sienna" These three are my favorites. I believe John Tracy mastered these, at lease the ones I have. They do sound like a straight transfer and pretty nice sounding. IIRC "Hellbound Train" was remastered because they faded the last song ("Hellbound Train") instead of letting the song go until it ends abruptly.
"I'm tired of trying to be somethin' I know ain't me..." Steve, you are correct. "The Savoy Brown Collection Featuring Kim Simmonds" is in the "Chronicles" series. Polyram released it on the Deram label in 1993. Compilation produced by Bill Levinson and Kim Simmonds. Mastered by Joseph Palmaccio at Polygram Studios.
