This Seattle Jimi Hendrix Day T-Shirt speaks volumes about Janie's marketing skills.

At the first microsecond of a glance, I thought the little upside down trident was Jimi giving us the finger.

The upside down trident is a Seattle Mariners logo.........for those who don’t follow baseball.

Are they giving these away as a Mariner promotion?

Yep. He had a clause in his contract that he could refuse to play Seattle.

Jimi had a rough childhood--alcoholic parents who divorced when he was young, often without a fixed address, most of his siblings lived in foster care, and he dropped out or was kicked out of high school. Finally, he had to choose between the military or prison when he was busted for stealing cars.

Still, he played concerts in Seattle each year from 1968-70. Evidently his main trepidation with going back home, at first, was that he thought his father would give him a hard time and cut his hair, but their reunion turned out fine. He even arranged for an assembly at his old high school, which didn't go well, but mostly because he'd been up all night drinking and playing Monopoly with his family. “He was not capable, or able, to play, or really to speak,” the principal recalled. They couldn't locate his bandmates or instruments, anyway, but given a chance to take questions from students, he also had a bout of stage fright and left after a few minutes with this benediction, "“Right now, I’m going to say goodbye to you, and go out the door, and get into my limousine, and go to the airport. And when I get out the door, the assembly will be over, and the bell will ring. And when I hear that bell ring, I’ll write a song. Thank you very much.”

BTW I failed to mention Experience Hendrix is selling these lovely shirts on their website for a mere $30 + tax and shipping cost. I've seen better looking Jimi shirts at Target.

Sadly, they probably spent more time putting that T-shirt together than putting the tracks together for that Electric Ladyland 50th anniversary box set.

They were also giving away Seattle Pilots hats. I guess you need to give lots of stuff away when you got 2 bad teams playing. The Orioles were in town.
