I consider this a better / best question as they are both great and have lots going for them and I enjoy them both. That said, Seinfeld would best my vote for the better of the 2 :)

Curb is awesome and I absolutely love it but Seinfeld is my favorite show of all time.

Seinfeld was maybe slightly more consistent.

But Curb has higher highs. The best episode of either is Curb's "The Doll" imo.

  7. Jason Alexander was born to play Larry David's alter ego, George Costanza. Everything else I've seen him in, he's terrible.

While I hate the movie itself, he did a good job in Pretty Woman. I tend to agree with you when it comes to television roles, but I think he does better on the big screen.

Curb Your Enthusiasm. I like Seinfeld, but am not a fan of the annoying "fake music".

I always thought Curb was sort of Seinfeld: The Next Generation.

Seinfeld is the polished hit single

Curb is the extended, uncensored live version

When I said "great", I was referring to the material being funny, not popular. I know the ratings for Seinfeld didn't pick up until the third season or so, but I still don't think the first season or two are very funny. Curb was funny right from the beginning.

That being said, I might have to change my vote for two reasons:

    1) Overall, Seinfeld is probably funnier (though I may laugh harder at Curb)
    2) You're correct that without Seinfeld, there would be no Curb.

Honestly it's a tough call. Another thing is that I think Seinfeld was just as funny during the years that Larry left.

Seinfelds pretty, pretty good. However, I relate more to Larry's neuroses. Megalike Curb...

Seinfeld by a lot for me. I haven't seen a ton of CYE but from what I have seen Larry David comes off kind of like a less endearing Woody Allen to me. The great thing about Seinfeld is that Jerry Seinfeld wasn't really the focus of the show. The show had so many other crazy charterers like George, Kramer, Newman, Frank and Estelle, Puddy, etc. who were the heart of the show and made it so special.

Curb by a "pretty, pretty, pretty good" margin.

Seinfeld had Frank Costanza, Curb didn't.

    Seinfeld wins.

Curb. The show makes me laugh out loud more and the fact almost nothing is off limits provides an endless stream of material. Having said that () the season of the Seinfeld reunion was comedy gold. Between Michael Richards lampooning his nightclub incident and the immortal "do you respect wood", I chuckle just thinking about those episodes.

Don't know if it quite makes sense to put it this way, but:

Objectively I'd say Seinfeld (though just barely). Subjectively I'd say Curb (though just barely).

By any conceivable standard, Seinfeld is probably the most perfectly-written sitcom of all time, both in terms of dialogue, story, characters and sheer consistency. From season 4 onwards, it's so ridiculously well-crafted in every possible way, it's unlikely to ever be topped by any show. Certain scenes and episodes remain side-splitting no matter how many times you watch 'em.

Having said that (as Larry'd say), these days I find that I tend to prefer the style and format of Curb overall; that is, slightly more realistic, less use of "sets," no background laughter, etc. I'm more often in the mood for Curb--but once I do revisit Seinfeld, I always realize yet again how great and funny it truly is, so this is only by a very slight margin, to be sure.
