Does in development mean it is actually in production? Are they to the point of having a cast and actually filming? If not it may never get to that point and killed off. We can only hope.

It may be a poor man's Rockford, but that's a pretty high bar to match. Around 2004-2005, the now defunct jumptheshark.com had it as one of the highest rated shows of all time, along with shows like The Rockford Files and Barney Miller.

this isn't necessary, but it would be nice to see a show in that style (or of that era). I don't care about the L&O, CSI crap. It would be nice to see something
more like that show or Rockford etc.

I wonder if the Robin's Nest house on Oahu is still available for shooting.

I'd like this if Selleck appears regularly or at least semi-regularly. It would be a nice touch to see the older Magnum take on the Higgins role, having finally grown up and matured and offering advice to his daughter.

But Rockford didn't have a daughter.

In the original Magnum PI (at least in the 7th season DVD's that I have -- the one where's he's shot and is near death), the daughter didn't speak any English. Will this show feature her speaking only French?

A few years ago Steve Carrell's production company had a 'Rockford Files' remake series in development. David Shore (of 'House') was the show runner and co-producer at one point. NBC even announced it would air the next season. Suddenly it was cancelled before it really got started. (I can't remember whether a pilot was shot or not.)* Dermot Mulroney was cast as Jim Rockford.

    * I see that there is a 2010 tv movie with Mulroney cast as Jim Rockford - I'm assuming that was the series pilot. I don't remember it, though.

After 'Castle' was cancelled last spring, I thought that Nathan Fillion would make a good 'Jim Rockford' in a remake.

Yep, it's not in the same league as either.

Considering how the entertainment industry clearly ran out of fresh ideas at least a couple of decades ago I'm surprised it took them this long to get around to bastardizing Magnum. Still, perhaps some sort of recognition is due for the fact that at least someone is trying to do something other than another cheap, idiotic reality show.

The power of brand recognition never fails to amaze me. Even a crappy tv show becomes venerated if it's name lingers around long enough. If you're going to reboot, at least reboot it right. How about a transexual "Petticoat Junction?" Or "Green Acres" on a pot farm?

Magnum won 2 Emmys, and Rockford won 5. Not a huge gulf between the two.

Although as a big fan of Magnum I have mixed feelings about this new show if they do make it I want them to do it well and have continuity with the original so I agree that it would be great if they could use Robin's Nest in some way, I'd also love to see Sellick in it at least once or twice, family was always an important element in the original, possibly Rick and T.C. as well and some reference to Robin Masters, at least closure on Magnum's theory that Higgins was Robin.
