Just got the Club Verboten 4 CD boxed set and have been enjoying it. I like the packaging and the lush booklet. Steve, I wondered what went into the decisions about the genres of gay music that were included. There is a whole area that I felt was neglected apart from the Lou Reed track: the whole Tom Robinson, tough guy homosexual music. Good work, yet again...

Thank you for the link, but it doesn't answer my question about why there weren't more gay rock oriented tunes included. They certainly are out there, so to speak :)

Don't know; I was just the engineer.

    Could be two reasons.

    1. Richard Oliver didn't like Rock Music.
    2. The cuts were too expensive to license.

One or the other I think.

Ah, makes sense. One of my pet peeves about "gay music" is that so much of it falls into a stereotype when it's represented as gay: the Barbra Streisand Steven Sondhiem stuff when there's so much cool rock stuff that we don't hear about much. Even Bowie disavowed his homosexuality, saying it was "just a [10 year] phase." Happily Angie's book set that straight, so to speak, again......
