SH Forum GIVEAWAY: The JBL 4312 Studio Monitors I mastered "Hotel California" on!

Ah, my old 1970's JBL Studio Monitors have just been returned to me with some other DCC things. I used these speakers to master the DCC Gold CD and vinyl LP of The Eagles' HOTEL CALIFORNIA. In fact I had almost given up hope of ever doing an acceptable mastering of this album until I hit on the idea of recreating the actual mixing environment of the original studio, JBL's hung in the middle of the room and all. Well, it worked and it was all due to these JBL's. They have a unique sound, very punchy, very easy to drive. A recording studio staple in the 1970's before those nasty little Yamaha NS10-M's came in.

They are still in pretty good shape, a little scuffed and scratched but still neat. If a wire jangled loose inside, it could be fixed quite easily. If I hook them up I might change my mind and keep them so I'm not gonna. I could also sell them on eBay but I would rather GIVE them to an SH Forum member.

They are free to a good home. You need to pick them up in person in the San Fernando Valley or arrange to have them shipped to you with Freighters & Craters (or is it Craters & Freighters?)

Those of you interested let us know here on this thread and Jeff will enter your names and do a "random spin" or however he does it to pick someone fairly. Remember, if you put your name here and win, you must be responsible for picking these up!

    Ready, set, go!

    They look like this:

Actually, they look more like this:

Maybe they are 4311's. Mine still have the front grills.

At any rate, they look neat and sound neat!

OK... I'm in! I can see how they sound in comparison to the KEFs that I currently use in my own studio.

    Cheers,
    Chris

As much as I would love them, I have no room for them so I'll bow out of this contest. But I would like to come visit them in the winner's home (especially if they end up in Hawaii). ;)

Enter me in for those bad boys! If I listen hard enough to my regular copy of "Hotel" on them....they might help me remember what my DCC copy sounded like before it was stolen last year. :)

    Put my name in there.

I'd use them in my studio work too. I'd love to have them as a reference... heck, I'd probably try mixing on them.

While I'm sure you can find a more deserving home for them than mine, I would certainly enjoy them greatly...

    Guys,

A great giveaway from Steve. These babies are history. I do my home mastering on a pair of vintage JBL L-166's (1975) so, I know the sound - great for Oldies and Classic Rock....

    Go for 'em!

    Bob :)

I don't have the extra scratch to have 'em shipped to Tennessee so I cannot join in the fun. But what a nice gesture, Steve! Good luck to everyone here. I hope they find a good home.
