In case anyone's curious, that photo is from after a Spirit show on "Ed's 70th birthday tour" in the early 90's IIRC. I didn't know the guys back then or anything but as a big fan thought it would be a cool gesture to get him a present and had a "70 Year Old Drummer" t-shirt made, which he is wearing in this shot. I bought a big birthday card and b4 the show I went up to every person in the club and asked if they'd sign the card for him - one person actually declined btw, but everyone else thought it was a great idea and wrote some cool stuff. Then at a quiet point in the show I interrupted Randy while he was tuning up or whatever and handed him the present & card to give to Ed, and Randy seemed really blown away that some fan bothered to do that. Ed put the shirt on right then while standing up behind his kit and wore it for the rest of the show. Was a really fun night. Got to know them a little bit after that, they remembered me at other Philly shows I went to. Ed later made a xerox copy of the card for me and sent me that (which I still have to this day). He told me he kept the card on display in his house on a mantlepiece or something like that (?). RIP to both those guys...
