I was 8 going on 9 when I first heard music from Close Encounters- it was on an Evening At Pops on PBS presented by Steven Spielberg as a sort of retrospective on the collaboration he had with John Williams as well as celebrating the 10 year anniversary of Maestro Williams' appointment as conductor of the Boston Pops.

At this point I was only really aware of Williams from his work on the Star Wars trilogy, the two Indiana Jones sequels and Superman but this particular telecast really opened me up as to the breadth of Williams' oeuvre. As such, if weren't for that specific show and the subsequent airing of Jaws immediately after, I wouldn't be the film fan and John Williams fan that I am today.

As an aside, years later in late-August of 1997 I found myself at some music store in a mall in Virginia Beach perusing the soundtrack section when I stumbled upon the DCC CD release of Raiders of the Lost Ark! Seeing as this was before the internet became a bit more commonplace I did not know such a thing existed. Suffice to say I picked the sucker up and simply had a blast listening to it that afternoon and on the way back from VA! One of my most fondest summer memories and cherished CDs- thanks so very much Steve!

The music brings back the memory of seeing the film in 70mm upon its original release; I felt like I was floating when I left the theatre, no small thanks to the wonderful score.

This I would like to hear. I have never played a SACD before. I acquired a Oppo BD-93 earlier this year.

    John Williams is the best.

This remaster must really be dynamic.
