I have just been watching this CSN video (from 1983, I think), and the bass player is kicking all kinds of butt. I thought it might be fun to have a place to celebrate terrific bass playing.

It doesn't matter what kind of music has the badass bassery. It just needs to be awesome.

PS - Casady, Pastorius, Lesh, and Scheff are all especially welcome. ;)

I love great bass playing, sometimes I think more in the studio than live. Guys like James Jamerson and Paul McCartney have a great tone and attack that shows up in their studio work most often.

The one that really surprises me when I heard it the other day was Gene Simmons' on "Sure Knows Something," the big-in-Australia followup to "I Was Made For Loving You." Killer song, amazing video, and Simmons establishes this killer groove from the opening moments. It's more like something you'd expect from Sly Stone, or maybe K. C.'s Richard Finch, but it's very good and suits the song.

The bass/drums interplay on this song is completely bonkerz. (You can start it at the 4:50 mark for the bass thing)
