I'm not promoting the show "Sharp Objects" though I do really enjoy it, but if anyone on this forum has seen the HBO show, they'll surely have taken note of the stereo system in it. It's rather impressive, even if you're not a solid state kinda guy. I believe it's a Simaudio Moon setup, with a gorgeous turntable, possibly a Linn. In the latest episode, it's shown off a little more at the end of the show than in the previous episodes (though it is displayed faithfully every week). It's the preferred tool in which the father drowns out his emotional pain with high end high fidelity sound, and this particular stereo is almost like a minor character in the series in that it makes brief appearances in every episode and interacts with one of the main characters.
This last episode they showed the father in an early time. He was using an Linn LP-12 and I think a Mac pre-amp. Very good show but very disturbing.
For me the most disturbing bit from the last episode was the filter and loudness switches on that MA-5100 that were turned on... ...also that's the treble control he's fiddling with.
I've got an M1840 Musicians' Sword hanging on the wall behind my recliner (I'm a civil war reenactor, field musician and bandsman). Was kinda handy to have as an unspoken deterrent for the boys when my daughter was a teen
Even if I didn't like the show, I'd still probably watch it just to see the stereo used every week. Kinda lame, but it's the truth.
I have yet to see the speakers in the show. Every week I look for them. They've never been shown as far as I know.
I've only seen glimpses. Before reading the article linked above I thought they were some kind of on-wall speaker.
You're better than me. I've seen the audio rig and that still isn't enough to keep me turned in. Not a big fan of the show itself but YMMV
I think it was the second episode, you saw them in the background. Someone in this thread took a screen shot Sharp Objects new HBO crime drama with Amy Adams *
That is cool people recognized the flashback gear, I didn't. In a flashback scene not related to him playing the lp, I think it was Adora doing something, there was a tube amp in the background.
