It's a sad state of affairs if even the last original thing you got born with needs to be phony (auto-tuned voice).
There should be none if it includes artists that aren't rock and roll! Rap didn't come from rock and roll. [Mod: Music genre bashing remark removed]
No! A few hit singles shouldn't get you in. Not a large enough or substantive enough body of work, IMO.
Listen to this album, which she mostly co-wrote, and then tell us she's not an artist. It was recorded in the 90's and released in 2000. Not.com.mercial
At least the early part of her career was backed (on record) by the Wrecking Crew, parts of who are in so why not her?
Given what the RRHoF has become, yeah for sure she belongs there...fit right into that little echo chamber.
I can't speak to her inclusion based on her catalogue because it's subjective and everyone's got their opinion. However, if there is any question about her large body of work here are a few stats: She placed 33 records on the Singles chart 21 of those went Top 40 11 Top 10s 4 #1s She is ranked #66 on the Top 500 artists chart. She has placed a record in the top ten for 4 decades from the 60s to the 90s. C'mon already. Give it up. You know my first sentence? Screw it:
That's a good idea. To late, though. WE wanted to honor our musical legacies over the last 60-some years, but, somehow, a lot of people got in their heads that it only means electric guitar rock.
Hell, yes. She was a trailblazer for women in popular music and "rock credentials" have not counted for anything in a long while, although I'd argue Cher has more of them than some inductees. And hell YES to Pat Benatar too. I agree, they have obviously pissed off someone high up...but I doubt either of them really cares.
I love this song. And the video too. It's one of my fave guilty pleasures. And yes, she should be in.
Only if they take away the words rock n roll Hall of Fame would cover it And a lot of current nonsense posing as music
I would say definitely, her middle period stands taller than for instance Tom Petty and he is in. Sometimes sales are not what defines an artist. She has a rich history in pop and I see no reason for her exclusion.
Her 60's stuff was pure folk rock and there were tons of rock'n'roll in her 70's and 80's work, not to mention Gregg Allman. Plus if this is not a superb rock'n'roll record I don't know what is.
