Just got this and really like side B. Well recorded and good tunes.. But I just skimmed through side A and don't find it sounds good nor has catchy tunes.. Is it worth a full listen?

You want us to tell you whether you should spend 15 minutes listening to the entire record side?

"Thunderbird" was a dandy show opener. The rest is OK.

These kinds of threads are so bizarre.

"Hey, all you total strangers! Please tell me what I will like, as if you know me better than I know myself!"

I have too many records and too little time! I always thought most people would agree on what is "filler material" on popular albums.. Am I mistaken?

ZZ Top 1970-1975 is all solid except for the live side of Fandango. Their first misstep and kind of disappointing to hear they were so sloppy (drunk) live, though it's fun

    It's with a listen. A listen. One.

I like that first side. It's rough and raucous and quite in contrast to their polished studio work. I would have liked to have seen a stand-alone live album of that gig/era.

Yeah, I think you are mistaken. One man's "filler" can be another man's crucial color commentary. Nobody but you can know which it is.

And in the time since you made your original post, you could have listened to it and made up your own mind.

IMO, "having too many records" is'nt a good excuse for not listening to them. If you can't relax long enough to really hear the music in depth, what's the point?

I love the opening track Thunderbird and the medley (so that\s basically the whole first side). It sounds exactly how I imagine it was recorded; beer-soaked boogierock in a sweaty club, filled to the rafters with over-exited fans, where at any moment a huge row can break out.

I just made a sandwich. I’m going to create a thread on whether I should eat it or not...

That could be a problem if you have too many sandwiches. Maybe you should file it away with the rest of your collection.

What kind of filler is in it?

Thunderbird and Backdoor Medley are essential driving tunes...

    That version of Thunderbird SMOKES.

    well...start with the first album.
If you dont dig the opening 1-2 punch of "Somebody Else Been Shaking Your Tree">"Brown Sugar", then you don't like ZZ Top.

Its just a quick snapshot of the band but not representative of a mid 1970s ZZ show....

Thunderbird was how they opened their early shows & the best thing on side one

You want to start with the best stuff first...so go with these in order

    1.Dequello (their best)
    2.Tejas (most diverse)
    3.Rio Grande Mud (hardest rocking)
    4.Tres Hombres (the breakout classic)
    5.First Album (good debut)
6.Fandango (side 2 is classic ZZ)
7.Eliminator (the bands last great album)
8.El Loco ( contains Tube Snake Boogie & Pearl Necklace)
9.Recycler (best of the post Eliminator records)

After these its pretty much repetition

Side B is the side that should be discussed. It is fantastic!
