Fandango side B is great, but doesn't really compare to Tres Hombres or Degüello as albums, drinking or otherwise. Why limited to just one album?

They're not really a favorite band of mine. I've heard the other early albums and they just don't do it for me as much as Fandango. The album is special to me, the band not especially. That happens sometimes.

This album should have went the Wheels of Fire route, one studio record, one live record.:edthumbs:

That seems strange, "Mexican Blackbird" was only played during the tours for Fandango! and Tejas (WWTT), while "Nasty Dogs and Funky Kings" was played on those tours and kept for the Degüello tour (the No Quarter Tour) and then resurrected around the time of Rhythmeen tour (there was also a live version released on a single), same thing for "Precious and Grace", played consistently from release into the 80's and later ressurrected, I have heard both live in modern times. I don't know exactly what songs they played later on every tour, maybe they started playing "Mexican Blackbird" again around the time of Rancho Texicano...? But I don't really consider what songs they happen to play now as a good measure of what should be included on a compilation.

"Chevrolet" was the second song in the set throughout the 70's and was the most played song from Rio Grande Mud (probably more often that "Just Got Paid" even) and one of the most consistently played songs overall.

This is the only footage of a complete song from the WWTT I have seen:

Well, they were fans of Cream, so that might have something to do with it.

I wonder if they intended to do the 2-LP route and London said to them, "Who do you guys think you are, Cream?"

    I would rank their albums....

    1.Dequello
    2.Rio Grande Mud
    3.Tres Hombres
    4.Fandango
    5.First Album
    6.Tejas
    7.Eliminator
8.La Futura (a strong, overlooked comeback)
    9.Recycler
10.El Loco (which I think is very weak)

You have the record, it's 15 minutes of your life. Hell, if you had just flipped the record over and listened, the side would have been finished well before you got whatever response you were looking for here.

According to the site Mexican Blackbird was also played sometimes in 2000, 2002 and 2009.

You might not take into consideration songs that are played currently when deciding what to include on compilations but I'm sure sometimes the compilers do.

It's way off topic, but since we've discussed compilations, here is my best of the 70's:

    "Shaking Your Tree"
    "Brown Sugar"
    "Neighbor, Neighbor"
    "Francine"
    "Just Got Paid"
    "Chevrolet"
    "Waitin' For the Bus"
    "Jesus Just Left Chicago"
    "Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers"
    "Precious and Grace"
    "La Grange"
    "Thunderbird"
    "Nasty Dogs and Funky Kings"
    "Blue Jean Blues"
    "Heard It On the X"
    "Tush"
    "It's Only Love"
    "Arrested For Driving While Blind"
    "El Diablo"
    "Enjoy and Get It On"
    "Asleep In the Desert"

I haven't timed it, but it's 21 tracks, just like he first disc of Rancho Texicano. Bubbling under are "Backdoor Love Affair", "Ko Ko Blue"and "Down Brownie", but I decided to keep the track count down for the first couple of albums. Besides the usual suspects, it is based on what songs were singles and what songs were consistently played live ("Jailhouse Rock" should also be considered on those grounds).

Yes, that must be it, I don't think they even played it on every show back in the day, it usually appeared in one of the encore sets.

What is the point of the "Music Forum" if I can't ask opinions on Music? Keep in mind I have many records I have no time to give thorough listens to.. This was just one example.

I love it. My Mom, not so much. The "Backdoor Medley" used to drive her nuts. "Got To Mellow Down Easy"!

I'm not saying to not ask, but by the time you posted this and got responses you could have listened to it five times. What better way to determine if you like it?

But if the opinions of strangers who know nothing about you will carry more weight, knock yourself out.

Generally (and logically), these types of questions are asked by someone who is considering the purchase of a piece of music...not by someone who already has it in their collection, but is simply too lazy to listen to it.

Sorry you think your time is more valuable than ours, but you’re gonna have to listen for yourself.

No one can decide your opinion for you anyway...

Backed with "Borracho y Parrandero".:) A Colombian single, strange choice of A-side, that's not one you're likely to see very often. I used to collect London era releases and have most of the singles from around the world, except for many of those South American ones (they did several odd couplings), I don't remember ever seeing that one for sale. One of there rarest ones I have is a Mexican "La Grange"-"Move Me On Down The Line"/"Waitin' For The Bus" EP (an extra oddity in that it has "Bus" on it's own): ZZ Top - La Grange

I guess you are going by setlist.fm, remember that just a very few of the really early concerts have the songs listed, while basically every modern show is accounted for. "Certified Blues" is high on the list because they started playing it in recent years, it was not played live back in the day as far as I know. If all early shows were there you'd have songs like "Shaking Your Tree", "Neighbor, Neighbor" and "Down Brownie" much higher, they were staples back in the day, but those have never been revisited.

Yes I know. You can only go by the setlists that are listed and not all of them are listed. However, I still find it interesting.

If I recall correctly, Down Brownie and Shaking Your Tree were tied as the next 2 on the list.
