I hadn't listened to this in a very long time. This morning I broke out the My Way album and forgot how much I enjoyed Frank's interpretation of the S&G Classic Mrs. Robinson.

It not only swings it's hilarious. I wonder if he wrote those alternative lyrics himself?

.......they did a good job. Very funny if you've seen the movie and know the story.

How would even the 1967 PTA go after Mrs R after she bagged a piece of over-21 Young Stuff? Besides, she hadda Lola Felana/ Ben Vereen kinda thing!

Oh, to have experienced Paul Simon's reaction the first time he heard Sinatra's version...

He didn't like it--and told Sammy Chan that to his face...on a Cavett PBS show, circa 1974. He then immediately apologized to Sammy when he saw how much it hurt him.

Oh, I know very well that he didn't like it. I would just love to have seen his reaction, though, the first time he heard it!

IMO, any reaction other than "OMG, Frank Sinatra is singing my song!" is inexplicable.

I'm tempted to ask: 'How the hell did he get away with this?'

    But I think I know.....

Because it's Frank's world, and we just live in it.

I mean, when you've loved and lost the way Frank has, then you, uh, you know what life's about.

Earlier thread: Sinatra-Mrs. Robinson [Moderator edit: threads merged.]

Plus, there are many mentions in other threads. Sinatra recorded this for his 1969 album My Way, shortly after the release of the movie The Graduate. Reportedly, Paul Simon was not pleased by Frank's takeoff.

I like Frank but this was not a good choice, probably the worst song Frank ever recorded

It was a joke. And it appealed to a lot of people at the time.

I don't think @Ronald Sarbo would agree with your assessment. :D (Sorry, inside joke.)

Am I too presumptuous to think that over the years, The Chairman Of the Board had his way with a "Young Thing" or three, of his own....?
