Well, to be more specific: It's an alternate take of the original 1947 78 rpm single which is the version in the “complete” 12-CD box set (mx. HCO2420-2). Most other CD *and LP* releases have the alternate (mx. HCO2420-1), I believe.

This is different than most Columbia recordings in that take "-2" was the original issue, not take "-1". The two takes assigned to that mx. master no. were recorded on different dates. See at the SFF: Frank Sinatra Sessionography .

OK. So maybe my pitch has improved and I'm hearing it differently. ;)

I first heard this track on the Harmony Xmas album that had 9 or 10 tracks. I think it may have been the last track on side 1.

    Yes, this one (1966):

There were also two alternate covers (1967 and 1968):

(Three of the worst and/or most anachronistic Sinatra LP covers ever.)

I recently found a Columbia 12" L.P. with an image of a woman lounging on a sofa. Is that rare? I had never seen it.

Just received the Columbia ten inch record "Christmas with Sinatra". Highly recommendable little record with wonderful warm and authentic sound! Love it! It is just the opposite of the other "House Party" series release "Get happy" which rather sounds awful in my opinion. I was completely surprised by this. Never thought it would sound that nice. Nice little present from Santa!:)

I agree Bob. That picture of Frank is just bizarre.

Sinatra pic in grey sport coat and tie from "High Society".

Other pic I believe from "Never So Few". Jacket is dark to obscure military uniform. Columbia also did this when they used pics of Sinatra from "Kings Go Forth".

I broadcast an uninterrupted 2 hours of Columbia ballads by Sinatra this evening for his upcoming birthday.

The 10inch House Party "I've got a crush on you" has wonderful sound, too. Very seldom to hear nice sounding Columbia pressings! Very enjoyable!

Relative to the previous discussion of the “Big Blue Box”: The first photo is of the paper-wrapped cardboard reissue; the second is of the original hardwood case.

Last night. Location to remain undisclosed because you are not allowed to do that kind of thing in the USA...stealth radio. But it was 10,000 watts FM.

I see dealers selling excellent condition copies of the True Big Blue for about (or even less than) what it sold for new. Why hesitate?

I've just purchased the original BBB (wood box) complete with the blue cardboard wrap around, absolutely mint for £20 on an e-bay auction, proberly the best bargain I've ever made on e-bay...fantastic! a replacement for my previous cardboard re-issue BBB, which had cd vol's 4,5,6 disc's missing! I'll just keep my original re-issue as a spare!

Just listening to "The Frank Sinatra Story in Music" Columbia 2-lp set on his birthday. Bad echo sound on this one. Although it doesn't mention stereo it almost sounds like fake stereo. Too bad. Otherwise a fine collection of songs. After falling in love with the two before mentioned House Party series 10"records, which sound fantastic, this is a real letdown. Wished we had our expert Matt on the Columbia stuff as well:)

I will never know what they had in mind by adding that echo sound! That made the recordings sound even older than they were! They sound like coming right from an old-time gramophone with flare ( is "flare" the right word?). I think you know what I mean...
