I'm trying to remember which sitcom I saw that used this device for comedy. One of the characters was sick in bed or lame and had a bell to ring for help. One of the other characters had to respond to the bell, and it got to be an involved process with many bell rings and back and forth walking to help the character in bed. The character who responded to the bell rings was practically seething with frustration in having to help the bedridden character. Does anybody remember which sitcom or other shows that had this bit?

Was it animated or live action?

I want to say Fawlty Towers but no idea!

    Two come to mind:
    • Married...With Children: I don't remember if a bell was used, but in one season had Peg's mother (voiced by Kathleen Freeman) confined in a bed upstairs and the family had to respond to her. Peg's father (played by Tim Conway) was also featured.
    • My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic: One episode features Discord (who was faking an illness) being bedridden and driving Twilight Sparkle to distraction by his demands (such as getting him a glass of water). Ironically, he really does become ill at the end of the episode.

I'm pretty sure an episode of Brady Bunch used this plot device.

I can't remember if Fonzie used a bell when he "set up shop" on the Cunningham's couch after he was injured during his motorcycle jump, but he did take advantage of them at first.

Was this for a single episode, or was it like this for the whole series?

The episode I was thinking about involved Kelly being sick and she has a bell to summon Al. And this happened.... and yes, that is Pamela Anderson

I'm pretty sure there's an episode of Fawlty Towers like this...

I was going to say "a classic episode" but then pretty much every episode is a classic!

I don't think Fawlty Towers ever used this gag. There was the episode where Sybil stormed out just before they were having company, and Fawlty talked Polly into dressing up like Sybil and pretending to be bedridden, but that might have been the closest.

There was a good Ghost and Mrs. Muir episode featuring a bedridden Charles Nelson Reilly demanding to be waited upon - can't remember if he had a bell or not.

Roseanne had a breast reduction surgery in the hospital, so she couldn't eat anything. She asked Dan to buy her some Frito's from the hospital vending machine so she could at least lick the salt.

There was an episode when all of the kids had measles, was that the same one?
