    Or a Scorpions?

It’s hard to say with Slayer. They’re a very business oriented group (much like a lot of popular bands), but I have to believe Araya is wearing down and probably wants to stop. You can replace the drummer and guitarist, but your lead vocalist and frontman is a different deal. That’s not to say Kerry King might not try it though, but I think even he knows it wouldn’t work.

I kind of lost interest after South Of Heaven but i still love the albums up to (and including) that one.

Slayer went when Jeff Hanneman died.

Truth, but losing Lombardo (again) did not help.

It must hurt to play their music at their age.

I saw them last summer in Nashville and it was a decent show, but for me it's just not the same with Lombardo and Hanneman. I respect their right to continue if they choose to, but I appreciate their decision to end it while they are still performing at a high level rather than enduring a slow but steady decline in their abilities.

I'm pretty sad and relieved about this. I rate Slayer as the undisputed greatest live band ever, and when I saw them last In Glasgow on the Repentless tour, they were as good as the first show I saw of theirs in the mid 80's. It was a great night, extremely tight band and incredibly professional but you also thought "how can they keep this level of playing going" and I am glad they are doing it one last time and calling it a day.

One of the giants of Metal.....like Motorhead, there will never be another Slayer.

Wouldn't mind one last album though

Ah yes.....the common Slayer "fan" party line......."everything after Jeff is crap".

How about, "It's just not good regardless of whoever is on the album."?

Ah well, assuming the tours a success, at least I know there will be tickets available in Pheonix.

Okay, I mean, I love the stuff up to Seasons, but they have mostly been treading water for a while, so alright.

To be honest, I can totally see them going back out after farewell tour, it really wouldn't be surprising.

I can't. Having seen Araya on the last tour, there is no way. He looks tired. He has admitted in an interview that he can't head bang after his spine surgery and doesn't feel the same about playing the music without it.

Good posts & agree with much.

I know (TSWisla) you mean “excited” for the tour.

    I myself....I’m just SAD...and SADDENED.

I wanted more albums, live archive stuff, box sets, maybe album by album Super Deluxe sets, more new stuff with Holts input, a lot more years, more tours, theatre gigs, big 4, big 3, big 2 gigs.

    I am so bummed.

All that’s left is pressure to travel & buy tickets to as many shows as possible. I might get my wife to go to one....just since she’ll never have to be married to me for another Slayer Tour ever. Ha! But, looks like I’ll be traveling all over the West Coast solo this summer.

Point taken. I can see Tom being reluctant to go on, but at the same time, I've seen enough guys go on WAY past their expiration date.

I have exactly the same sentiments, exactly. I am going to take my kids to a show for sure, just so that they can say they saw this LEGENDARY band. If you need someone to head out to a show with, I am game!
