In the 70s (especially before punk), there were a number of very slick rock bands that never really found "fame" but developped a good little following and put out some neat albums. They seemed to be following on from what Steely Dan, Little Feat or Doobies were doing.
My experiene of them is UK based but I'm sure that there were similar outfits in the USA , Australia, Europe,...
So, this thread is for those forgotten musos. I won't list them, so as to let everyone post examples.
Kicking off with The Movies and the opening song of their self-titled first album, "Black Country Lady":

The album cover screams mid 70s.

Probably my favourite 70's band that didn't make it. Featuring future UFO guitarist Paul Chapman.
Love this cover of The Beatles 'She Said She Said'.

  23. Fotomaker - Where Have You Been All My Life. Lineup included an ex-Raspberry (Wally Bryson) and a couple of former Rascals (Gene Cornish and Dino Danelli). Made three albums with little success outside of a few markets.

  24. Good idea for a thread! Some of these will surely sound quite dated (both good and bad), but I'm especially curious to hear examples of those I've never even heard of. 2nd string (even 3rd string) 70's pop, with production that aimed for the stars.

Actually, a good well-curated 2CD comp of this stuff might be kinda fun too. Kind of like an alternate reality, of 'never were hits' by bands no one's ever heard of -- but that sound not entirely unfamiliar either. Fun!!

These guys used to play around Chicago all the time. Saw them often. Always a great time.
