That song still gets so much airplay over here it's the "little known" that's problematic, not the "British."

The singer and the song are famous. The band only released the one single before merging to form Quarterflash. It's Seafood Mama.

Kerrang! (via Music for Nations) already did it back in the 80's.

It's actually brilliant, shame it never got a CD release...probably for nightmarish rights issues.

Last one (I'm pretty sure) from Legs Diamond...

Here's a song from another band on the fringes of 70's rock, Detective. They're reminiscent of Legs Diamond, but are more on the rock side and may not be as "slick" sounding. And with only two albums to their credit, they are certainly lesser-known.

Michael Des Barres...tried everything to become more famous than he ultimately became.

JFC, that cover. Ted Nugent got something less controversial than that yanked.

Yeah, a lot of bands of this ilk this had one or two hits but may have actually put out half a dozen or more albums. I find it hard to recall ones that didn't at least have one breakout song.

1979's self titled had a minor hit with "I Need A Lover", which became a major hit when Pat Benatar covered it. American Fool had him break through to the big time a few years later.

Weren't there two or three groups going by that name? Iain Matthews' Southern Comfort, the one who released an album on Columbia in 1970, and, presumably, that one.

This is Ian Matthews' Southern Comfort who released three good albums (but I don't think they fit in here really ) after Ian's departure, as far as I can remember there was also an American fusion group by the same name
    Edit:
this is the one - I picked it up once because I thought it was the English band
