Pulling apart the double tracked vocal parts in "Matchbox" and "Slow Down" (and putting together a fresh mix of each track) would be a worthwhile project for the spectral editing guy/s at Abbey Road.

i love the beatles's version of slow down! i think the larry williams version of slow down is the most underrated track of the 1950s!

Pretty sure that would be "All You Need is Love".

One of the few where I absolutely prefer the mono over the stereo.

I'd give the sloppiest award to Matchbox..Slow Down really isn't too bad save for the less-than-great-solo. It's been said that it's John on Matchbox.

Maybe they should have hired some cracker jack, perfect playing, nerdy musicians to play for them on this. They are a dime a dozen.

I believe the OP is jerking us around.

They weren't the only '60s band to love this Larry Williams number:

Technically impossible, for the reason it's all 1 on 1 overlapping in the frequency range.

  12. As I recall, it’s John.

What’s all this talk about the guitar solo not being any good? Ridiculous. It’s raw, aggressive, and abrasive - in other words, it’s what rock guitar should be. I wish Harrison would’ve played this way more frequently.

I wonder if there are any basic track versions of "Matchbox" and "Slow Down" without overdubs in the tape library (and on Giles Martin's hard drive!). They would be interesting to hear.

Once again to each their own!

There's absolutely nothing wrong with Harrison's guitar solo to me, he's rockin!

Dial back the horribly punched up 2.7 k mid-range and it's much more listenable.

Those four "Long Tall Sally" EP stereo mixes are all terribly mastered.

They could have undid the damage for "Past Masters" but didn't.

The "She's A Woman" stereo mix has the exact same horribly punched up mid-range. Dial that back and it sounds more like the other stereo mixes on "Beatles For Sale"

I just read the Revolution in the Head book bit on Slow Down. Macdonald (might be spelt wrong) does not like it but then he does not like Bad Boy or any of that stuff he refers to as hack work. I played my old Past Masters 88 cd versions of the Long Tall Sally EP - all stereo and I thought they are ok. I then played The Jam version of Slow Down which I also love.
This just my opinion but I always love a Lennon vocal and he really is one of my favourite singers.

Matchbox is way worse. Worst song they ever did.

I love Slow Down. Love the solo. One of the first (if not the first) really overdriven guitar sounds on a solo on a Beatles record.

The stereo mix though....ouch a bummer.

AFAIK, the multi-tracked vocals on these two songs already have the vocals on separate tracks (2 vocals on Slow Down, 3 vocals on Matchbox). Some of the vocal tracks do share space with instruments however.
