Bowie himself did a version of "Let's Dance" with a "slowed down" intro - the rest of the song was "normal", though:

 

The Red House Painters utterly transform Silly Love Songs into an epic Crazy Horse guitar jam. A mind boggling alteration.

 

I think there's a Help cover and Ticket To Ride cover that quite frankly, make me cringe. Also the I Want To Hold Your Hand "Glee" cover is another one.

Who can forget the Olsen Twins' trippy take on 'Gimme Pizza'?

 

I get the impression sometimes that an artist wants to cover a paricular song , isn't sure how to bring something new to it and so they slow... it... down. They may think that makes it more soulful but as often as not, it just makes the song slow.

Ha, I forgot some words in the title: meant to be "Slowed down cover songs in pop culture".
But I'm enjoying a lot of these slow cover versions so much that I'm happy to keep it as an all around slow versions thread.

 

Elvis, Gentle on My Mind from the album From Elvis in Memphis (my favorite album ever). I like this version and Glen Campbell's equally.

With apologies to the late Chris Cornell, but I honestly feel that "Steve & Eydie" made the definitive version of this song ...

I found this great slow piano instrumental of "Goldfinger", just searching on Goggle one day and it really made me smile ...

 

Maxence Cyrin - Where Is My Mind (Pixies cover). Used in a scene on the TV series Mr. Robot:

 

John Cowan does a nice slow bluegrass version of The Moody Blues "Nights In White Satin" ...

 

"Slow cover" makes me think of that creepy version of "Unchained Melody" that Sarah McLachlan did.
