Mono mixes would add to the uniqueness of this set, IMO.

We do, but as you say they are spread across remasters as bonus tracks and a sprawling box set - would be nice to have them on one disk for maximum impact..

    I voted for Mono.

I do have a thought about Stereo that hasn't been mentioned.

I bought the 2007 Vic Anesini masterings of Sly and the Family Stone back when they came out. I thought that the Greatest Hits tracks - in general - did not sound as as good as the album tracks. I cannot remember specifically what I was hearing that lead me to feel that way. But I definitely did feel that way. So if this came out in Stereo, and Steve did his magic on it, I'm sure that I would be very happy with the upgrade.

    I still vote for Mono.

Is the mono version of "Hot Fun In The Summertime" that's on one of the Rhino Billboard cds (cannot recall if it's the pop or r&b one at the moment) not the original mono single version?

My initial inclination would be to go with the mono single mixes. The LP is almost entirely a collection of hit singles and their B-sides and, in my opinion, the mono mixes of these songs sound better than the stereo counterparts.

The mono version of Hot Fun In The Summertime that appeared on the Rhino R&B CD is the original single version. The original mono single version of Hot Fun In The Summertime has also appeared on a couple of other compilation CDs and the recent Higher! box set.

Like Hot Fun In The Summertime, Fun is also on the Greatest Hits LP. The mono 45 mix of Fun, which appeared on the B-side of the Hot Fun In The Summertime 45, has not been released on CD.

Ah, thanks. Early in the morning my time, I simply thought people were abbreviating Hot Fun In The Summertime as Fun.

That elusive mono single mix of "Fun" isn't on Youtube, either. Methinks this one's gonna be the elephant in the room for this sacd if it ends up being mono mixes on the redbook layer. Might have to end up being a needledrop........

Actually, BS&T had THREE mixes, 2 unreleased. The worst of the three made the SACD.

Steve, please use the LONG (over 6 minute) version of Thank You (stereo) that was issued on the CBS Legacy sampler. It has never appeared anywhere else. Same take, just keeps going. It's great.

Comparing the 9 out of 12 available mono mixes*, against Vic's 2007 masterpiece this August afternoon...

    * the box set only has a live Stand, I see no mono mix...

They're both on the "Stand" cd as bonus tracks.
