SNL 40th Anniversary Special

I looked for a thread on this, but couldn't find one specific to this show.

Gorts, please close this if I missed the existing discussion.

It's a three and a half hour broadcast. Right now my local NBC station is running a one hour pre-show "red carpet" broadcast. Anyone else watching this? I saw an interview with Amy Poehler and I had a thought, but I'll keep it to myself.

What are your thoughts as you watch?

 

Since the only thing I watch is Justified on Tuesday, I've never subscribed to the additional HD costs every month. Therefore, my love for the first five seasons of SNL, and some shows thereafter have me watching a zoomed-in, VHS quality picture.
In other words, this TV viewing is actually more of an audio experience. My DVDs of the first 5 seasons are going to look great after this.

Actually interested in the live sketches. I understand Macca is in Town, so I want to see his performance too.

 

SNL is 40 years old. How is that possible? HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?!!!

Just tuned into the show. Skipped the pre-show.

 

Chevy Chase sounds like crap, he'll probably be next to go.

 

I haven't watched SNL for quite awhile but I have to say listening to the list of people appearing not in Don Pardo's voice just did not seem right. Don was THE voice of SNL, RIP.

 

Paul Simon looks like he had some "work" done.

 

One thing I wonder about is why Buck Henry has been MIA from SNL for so many years (from what I understand he will not be there tonight).

Did he have a falling out with Lorne around the New Show era or something to that effect?

I know he's been on 30 Rock but I don't think he's been on SNL for a very long time.

Just realized that today would have been Chris Farley's 51st birthday.

 

I'm working blind here - half way across the world and can't watch the special.

 

The guy's 84. Maybe not his thing anymore.

 

And I was 18 when it started.

 

Bobby D had a bit of trouble with his lines there...

 

No offense to SNL or NYC, but the self-congratulation being generated right now could power the city for the next twelve months.

 

The Jeopardy skit was great IMO.

 

Good to see GE Smith in the band again.

 

He's aged better than most of the cast members from the '80s!

Upon hearing of this special my first thought was a memory of watching the 15th anniversary spec

So far I think his line has been one of the highlights.

 

Poor Paul...time to retire Sir.

 

Paul's voice is shot.
