Grant Life is a rock, but the radio rolled me!

Question: where exactly does it say that in the lyrics? I've listened to this song since it came out and i've never heard "Great Caesar's Ghost" in it!

    Vehicle
    The Ides of March
    Hey well
I'm a friendly stranger in the black Sedan
Won't you hop inside my car?
    I got pictures, got candy
    I'm a lovable man
And I can take you to the nearest star
    I'm your vehicle, baby
I'll take you anywhere you want to go
    I'm your vehicle, woman
By now I'm sure you know
That I love ya (love ya)
    I need ya (need ya)
    I want ya
    Got to have you, child
Great God in heaven you know I love you
Well, if you want to be a movie star
I'll get a ticket to Hollywood
But if you want to stay just like you are
You know I think you really should
    I'm your vehicle, baby
I'll take you anywhere you want to go
    I'm your vehicle, woman
By now I'm sure you know
That I love ya (love ya)
    I need ya (need ya)
    I want ya
    Got to have you, child
Great God in heaven you know I love you
    Oh, you know I do
Well, I'm the friendly stranger in the black Sedan
Won't you hop inside my car
    I got pictures, candy
    I'm a lovable man
And I can take you to the nearest star
    I'm your vehicle, baby
I'll take you anywhere you want to go
    I'm your vehicle, woman
By now I'm sure you know
That I love ya (love ya)
    I need ya (need ya)
    I want ya
    I got to have you
Great God in heaven you know I love you
    And I'm your vehicle, babe
You know I love ya (love ya)
    I need ya (need ya)
    I want ya
    Got to have you, child
Great God in heaven you know I love you

No, not even close! It sounds like your typical mid-60s tune, sounds a bit like The Beau Brummels. But, I like it, and it exists on CD.

    It can be found here.

"Great Caesar's Ghost" is from the band's single "Superman" not "Vehicle". I guess it was their follow-up single maybe, I don't know.

Yes, "Superman" was a followup single and languished at #64. I never heard it.

I've got the 2CD compilation and the weird thing is (apart from Iva) the band has a completely different lineup of each of their albums. There's a guitarist who co-wrote a couple of songs throughout the band's history but he seems to only play on one studio album.

I remember when reading Guy Pratt's book he talks about his time in Icehouse but I can't recall him discussing the bands dynamic at all. Very strange to have that busy a revolving door!

Very cool. I have discovered some new tunes on this thread due to others mentioning/posting them. Fun stuff!

As Flowers they gigged around for years with the same lineup. As soon as Primitive Man came out everything changed.

Was it Iva just asserting himself or the label making the call? Also, any idea how Iva came to write with John Oates?

I think he used different musicians as his live band than he did for recording. Some of the albums are credited to Iva and a programmer.

He's mentioned working with Oats in interviews but I can't remember the story.

John Oates reveals unlikely inspiration for song Electric Blue

US musical icons Hall and Oates helped Australian band Icehouse enjoy their biggest hit. But it could have all been so different.
John Oates co-wrote 1987’s Electric Blue with Icehouse, a No.1 hit in Australia and No.7 in the US.

Oates revealed the unlikely inspiration behind the lyrics while writing with Icehouse’s Iva Davies.

"We were on a topless beach in Sydney,” Oates said. "I was thinking of a porno TV show I’d seen in New York called Electric Blue. This girl came towards me. She had blue eyes. I thought 'Should I look at her tits or should I look at her eyes?’ I looked at her eyes and it hit me – Electric Blue. Luckily I didn’t look at her tits, it might have been Electric Boobs. That might not have had the same longevity.”

I wasn't expecting that!!!! The lyrics do kind of tie into the story of being mesmerized though!

Sorry, I lost the thread a while back. My condolences on your father's passing. My copy of Vehicle had this on the flip - Lead Me Home Gently.

I love Brian Hyland's Gypsy Woman. Great production there. I also really like his follow-up, another re-make, done previously by Jackie Wilson - Lonely Teardrops. Note that Del Shannon produced it.

Yeah mine was a two sided hit re-release. That's not a bad song at all!

I just organized and installed these custom shelves I had made for the 45's. Now I need more time to spin them.

If I had mine on shelves I might need more shelves that you, but many in my collection is just picture sleeves, no records. I have slowly been getting rid of my 70's 45's that don't have pic sleeves - many are radio promos.

Yeah your picture sleeve collection is pretty sick!! I weeded out all of the duplicates and stuff that wasn't at least VG+ in condition unless it was something rare. I still have to clean and add a couple of hundred newer arrivals to the shelves which will pretty much max them out. I'm keeping my Dad's 45's I inherited (probably about 750-1000) in separate wooden units that he had made himself. They get their own spot on the other side of my man-cave.
