I got both of those, only got into Julie the last couple of years. I love those albums because it's just her, a guitarist, and a stand up bassist.
Barney Kessel plays guitar on vol. 1 (which has Cry Me a River) and Howard Roberts plays on vol. 2.

I got the lst one on a old mono LP. nice warm sound.

the second I have on a stereo reel to reel, clear crisp sound.

I agree, they would make superb audiophile type releases.

I started off the morning with Marianne Fathfull - Blazing Away and Renaissance - Tales of 1001 Nights I. The recent postings about Renaissance but the bug in my ear to pull out the Tales I & II cds. At the gym I listened to Pet Shop Boys - Always Futher listening 1987 - 1988.
And in the car I have Pink Floyd - The Final Cut followed by The Wall (the original cd from JPN).

I was in a mellow and introspective mood this morning. Got the morning paper and a cup of Java and started out with a Gordon Lightfoot GH LP I picked up for 99 cents a few days ago, then followed it up with the fabulous SH mastered Madman Across the Water LP. The sound on this made me put away the morning paper and just experience the music. I then also listened to Renaissance after the thread reminded me of them-Ashes are Burning LP.

Do you know what??....I haven't played a single CD or track so far in 2003 (can't believe it myself!).

I have been too busy celebrating the dawn of a new year (quietly) with my family and going to see my football (soccer) team play today.

So, I think it is about time to put that right...I'm going to play some tracks from Bjork's "Family Tree" box set...and I'll usually end up playing "New Year's Day" by U2 (sort of a tradition for me)

Happy New Year fellow forum fanatics....

I'm a "Citizens for Boysenberry Jam" fan.

Yesterday I made two CDR's (for convenience sake) out of Sounds Of Silence / Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme and Bookends / Bridge Over Troubled Waters. My wife was working today, so I listened to them straight through while undecorating the tree and generally trying to make the house look like it did pre-Christmas. So I guess the you could say the first thing I listened to in 2003 was the Sound Of Silence.

The actual *first* song of the New Year turned out to be "Video Killed the Radio Star" by The Buggles. My kids said it should be a tradition. I'm cool with that. :)

This thread gave me an idea. A listening journal. Everything I listen to this year, I'll write it down and add notes / thoughts, as much as possible. So thanks for the idea, even if it was mostly my own. ;)

I know a journal is a good idea; Oprah told me so.

The first thing I stuck on today was David Bowie's Heathen. Can't wait to hear Visconti's 5.1 surround mix on SACD!

So far, it has been mostly old-time stuff - the 4 CD series When the Sun Goes Down: The Secret History of Rock and Roll, on Bluebird. Best sounding transfers of mostly pre-war material I've ever heard.

  18. 2003 is but a day old!

I hope to hear the SACD of "Sea Change" soon; BUT today, I've been listening to / watching Ed Sullivan 'Best Of' that was broadcast as a 6 hour marathon overnight (and I taped). Sonny James, Ike and Tina Turner Revue, Pet Clark, The Rascals were all featured (where was the Rascals' bass player, anyway? There was one audible but not on screen . . and the track was very obviously live and not played over a taped backing).

    - - -

Records, not cds . . .as my sacd player is on loan to my buddy Glenn Longmuir for a few days (so he can absorb the format). Listening to E. Costello's 'Taking Liberties' right now as I type this, listened to one side of Dylan's 'Self Portrait' earlier.

    - - -

My fave two cd's last year of all new material was the above named Beck record and one by Brendan Benson and Jason Falkner named 'Lapalco'. '02 was a very good year for pop, sales notwithstanding.

  19. Reech, doesn't that current London Calling cd sound weird? They added some 'soundstage deepening' phase tricks . . .and phased the piano on "Train In Vain" right out of existence.

At least the various ep's were collected together onto one 70+ min disc, so you get a lot of tuneage for the money.

Just by some fluke I walked into a Tower yesterday and found a DCC Stray Cats - Built For Speed and two of the Creedence SACDs and then into a Borders which had a DCC Peggy Lee - Latin ala Lee so I've been listening to them mostly but I did start off the year with the Beatles White in mono and currently have Electric Ladyland going.:D
