Thanks -- ; however, I have since sold them -- I'll never forgive myself & thus the 'want' for a MC225 in like condition. Sometimes, in this hobby, we do stupid things to ourselves for the next 'hunt.'

    Very nice

Should I or should I not paint the output transformers?

I'd leave both the power and output as they are on your unit. It has a manly, industrial appeal to it. The paper/nomex covers should be left varnished only. Mine had bell covers on the OT and the amps had different amounts of oxidation on them due to them being separated at birth originally. I was glad to reunite the twins and give them matching clothing.

This one gets REALLY high marks from me. I have a pair of Sansui 5-way speakers that sound like crap driven by anything other than this S-C 12wpc amp. With that little beast, the speakers sound grit-free and have bloom out the wazoo.

Well its not on the level of the beautiful mono block tube amps in previous posts, but I have fond memories of the Marantz 250 I owned for awhile. Wish I hadn't sold it:

My recent craigslist find - I went to look at the 2238B, and he was demoing it using a Technics SL-1500 TT. I asked how much for the turntable as well, and he essentially threw it in. Total cost - $120.

    Nice, warm sound.

Those look sweet. I've never heard of the brand.

You got a great deal! I haven't seen any Marantz for that low.

Yeah, and the seller had cleaned it up as well. I had to use some deoxit on the speed dials of the TT, but that's about it - so far, so good. I always heard about the sound of the Marantz's, and was pretty excited to be able to get one, especially now that I've really gotten back into vinyl.

One of my favorite amps is this McIntosh MC240 that I rebuilt.

  13. 1971 Pioneer SA-9100 Int. Amp.

This amp was going to be part of my first stereo system back in 1971. Unfortunately I couldn't afford it at the time, but 38 years later I rescued this one from eBay and it was worth the wait. A very nice sounding vintage amp.

I remember that Pioneer. As A kid I could only dream of something that cool back then.. I loved stuff with a bunch of knobs on it. Ironic that most of my high-end stuff now only has like one knob!

Very nice, I must not have seen this picture before. I like the color scheme a lot better than what you started with. :D

The 240 is one of my favorites.

Wow, that Pioneer amp looks pretty.

  17. I remember reading a great review on this amp, I think it was by Julian Hirsch in Stereo Review Magazine. It was a lot of fun reading those reviews and putting together dream systems out of old Allied Radio catalogs. I still have some of those old catalogs somewhere...

  21. Thank you sushimaster, It came from a public library in California. It didn't have a case due to being mounted in a console cabinet along with a Dual 1219 turntable and a Teac cassette deck. it must have been quite a library!! The case that's on it now came from a matching tuner, A TX-9100 parts unit.
