So, you can't really sell DVDs Blu-ray on Amazon any more? (And what to do?)

I dug out a box of DVDs and Blu-rays, stuff I've watched or will never watch or kid cartoons, planning to see what was sellable. Apparently I would "need approval" meaning in part to show purchase invoices of new stock, i.e. show that I'm a reseller which I'm not. Why is this? I read something about combatting fakes, but I can find various bootlegs...well, maybe those are CD, do the same restrictions face CDs?

What can I do with these DVDs? I can't imagine it's worth trying to sell them on eBay since those listings are not aggregated nor referred to (i.e. on Amazon someone will search "Chicago" in video and see Soundstage amongst other titles, then see mine for sales amongst other sellers...I think the chances of selling something on eBay would be much less). ...If I go to the audio show this weekend, I'm tempted to stick the whole box by the door with a "free" sign. Or maybe donate to Goodwill...

Donate them to a local hospital for patients who are stuck in hospital rooms to watch.

It's L.A. There has to be a used media store that will buy the whole box from you. Here in Nashville, I sell to McKay's.

The problem with DVDs is that, for the most part (unless rare, OOP, etc.), they are worthless. Donate, donate, donate -- library is one option. I also gave some of mine away to friends (non-videophile ones), who were thrilled to get a free movie or two.

Nobody wants Blu-Rays either. Physical media for movies is pretty much dead for secondhand stuff.

Actually, that's not a bad idea- he could sell them in the Marketplace here.

I meant Nashville, but yes, our classifieds are another option.

Sell anything rare on eBay and give away the rest. Check sold listings for the values. Some films are out of print so can command decent prices but probably 95% are virtually worthless and not worth the time and energy in listing them.

The rare DVDs I see retaining some resale value are pre-1950s movies which are fast going out of print. Even some of those Turner Classic Movie collections sell for upwards of $100. Many of these are not available on any streaming service outside of Filmstruck. Unfortunately those are the ones I am most interested in collecting.

If you're in LA, go to Amoeba - they still buy movies.

I tell you though, I am taking FULL advantage of these cheap prices. Getting great DVD's and Blu's for as little as a buck or two. Lot's of great weird and obscure stuff out there also.

But you have to spend money advertising the thing, waste time sitting out there waiting for people to show up, etc. I guess it would be worth it if you had a bunch of other stuff to sell too, though.
