Some of the DOORS 45 mixes are so superior to the LP mixes! I wanna know why!

I'm fine without that bit but it seems they mixed Curtis Amy lower & his solo is the highlight of the recording for me.

I love this collection because I love them as a singles band - and I'm scared to admit Touch Me is my fave Doors song!

I just thought it was another Doors compilation yet. Thanks for the heads-up. Sorry I can't help with any answers.

Singles ( vinyl ) looks to be a keeper.
Saying that 150.00/200.00 is a wee bit pricey. Limited to 10.000 apparently.

I thought "The Unknown Soldier" had been issued as a single in February 1968. On the Columbia pressings of this 45, the small type used is 6 point Gothic Condensed No. 4 - one of the last pressings on any label to use it, as Pitman's print shop, in the middle of that month, replaced that typeface (as in tandem with a serif font, No. 11) whose use dated back to 1924 in Bridgeport, with a new (for them) font, 6 point Spartan Book Condensed with Heavy Condensed (the latter's use most prevalent; this new type would be on two singles released later in the month, "Honey" by Bobby Goldsboro [United Artists 50283] and "Jennifer Juniper" by Donovan [Epic 5-10300]). Here's the proof in the pudding (a CTH pressing, B.T.W. - never seen an actual CP pressing o' this):

And here, for comparison, is their next single, which was first released with a very long title which thankfully was shaved down before long:

Notice the differences between the two small typefaces - especially on the left.

Yep, the centered mix sounds better. That's why 60's stereo mixes mostly suck, while mono mixes are better: centered and cohesive.

You may be right on the date. I based the date on when it entered the Hot 100 (week ending March 30, 1968), allowing for at least 16 days lead time before that. So my guess would have been early March. The single was reviewed in the March 23, 1968 Billboard.

Looking over the Doors discography I am amazed by the number of their singles that flopped-- Four duds in a row in 1969-70. Did any other band so important ever have so many?

I am also somehow delighted by the fact that "The Mosquito" charted higher than "Break On Through."

Sorry, no Dirt, no Touch Me....stop rewriting history. I really hate it when they do that...sounds dated ?? not unless you've seen it countless times on TV back in the day. Anyone born after that would have no idea what Ajax was ....

But the song when originally released did NOT have that silly tag.
So history was re-written by The Doors organization in 1969.
    This release sets history straight

As I recall, people tended to sing "Stronger than dirt" along with the single, even before the LP added the Doors' voices on it. That lick was pretty well recognizable.
