How about Dorsey Dixon's maudlin classic "Wreck On The Highway", made famous by Roy Acuff.

"Who was it fell by the way?
When whiskey & blood run together
    Did you hear anyone pray?"

    Dave,

The original "Last Kiss" was recorded by Wayne Cochran. His version was, shortly thereafter, covered by J. Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers who had the first big hit with this tragic track. I enjoy the Wednesday version as well....

Does anyone remember a song called "I wan't my Baby Back" I had the 45 as a kid I have no idea if it got any airplay and I can't remember who it was by. It is the story of a guy who lost his girl in a car accident through out the song your hearing shoveling and the chorus is "I want my Baby Back" at the end you hear him open a coffin and the chorus changes to "I got my Baby Back" weird stuff.

Thought this was about a plane crash... "We were flying along and hit something in the air" ... but I guess it could be a car crash, too.

Yeah, it's one of the all-time sickies. Jimmy Cross was the guy's name.

"... and over there was my baby ... and over THERE was my baby ... and over THERE was my baby..."

"Moody River" is about a suicide by drowning. "Endless Sleep" is about a suicide attempt, a near-drowning. No cars were harmed in the making of those songs. :D

    Thanks Tim!

We'll save these tracks for the the inevitable drowning thread!;)

Re: Re: Songs about car accidents

The way people drive on the freeways today, they could actually be flying along and hitting something in the air!

I always heard it as "We were flying along and hit something in the end" as in 'last thing I remember'. At fist listen, I thought it was a plane, but got to thinking that planes don't usually hit other planes or airborne objects.

Or it could be about a motorcycle accident where they hit a bird?

Or a couple of folks high on drugs jumping out of windows thinking they could fly, and they hit a telephone pole?

Anyway, it's a great song as a drinking and driving deterrent!
