  1. Ed Bishop

Ed Bishop Incredibly, I'm still here

"He's Gone" is the one for me: the way Arlene sings it as if she means it in her fragile, teenage heart, and then, at the end, reaches and finds notes even she might not have realized she was capable of.

Also, a good portion of Tomita's SNOWFLAKES ARE DANCING; some bombast, but the quieter cuts--"Claire De Lune," "Girl With The Flaxen Hair," "Footprints In The Snow" have gossamer wings. Beautiful stuff.

And of course "She Loves You"/"I'll Get You," "Mandolin Wind," some of Ray Lynch's DEEP BREAKFAST, Lonnie Mack's "Why." So many, too many to remember right now.

The Eva Cassidy version of "Over the Rainbow" does it to me every time. I can't wait for Steve's version on Vinyl.

Almost anything by the Four Freshmen or the Beach Boys. Their vocal sound/harmonies make my spine tingle... and the Seekers also. There's something about magic vocal blends that goe right to my soul.

I got goosebumps just reading this title/artist. Yes! "Why" by Lonnie Mack. If it's possible to out passion Bobby Blue Bland, Lonnie did it on this song. You may know he recorded it again on his first Electra LP, though not quite as passionately. Don't think the Electra LPs have made it to CD. Too bad, as the first two continue the R&B groove with an added maturity that works well.

For me the opening glissando, followed by the shuffle at the beginning of Abba's "Dancing ueen" always do it for me. But then, it was the first record I bought.

For some reason, I never fail to get goosebumps when the background singers go "woo woooo" on Roger Waters' "Sunset Strip." :)

    Like A Rolling Stone

The entire London Calling album, from start to finish.

Springsteen, Growin' Up, live from the Roxy, 1978, where he is talking about his parents (who were in the audience)wanting him to be a doctor (or is it a lawyer, damn, can't remember) or a writer, and at the end saying "Well tonight, you're just gonna have to settle for rock 'n roll", and the band crashes in and just takes off into the stratosphere.

Oh Man, I have that bootleg. That's some powerful stuff. I used to love it when he did those raps. He used to do this thing before Pretty Flamingo where there was this girl walking down the street every day and they used to sit and wait and try to think of something cool to say her but they never muster up the nerve....
    Those were some amazing concerts.

Anyway my choice is: kd lang's verson of the orbison staple "Crying"
    That song kills me.

    Peace
    Norm
