Yes, it probably was, but you had to love REM in those early days.

Why that song isn't on any CD is beyond me. Love it.

For some reason the one that sticks in my mind is "Roy!" from the first song "Rave On" from the 1978 Roxy show.

Paul Simon: "I've dropped my harmonica, Albert" at the end of A Simple Desultory Philippic (Simon & Garfunkel)

The Chameleons (UK) cover of David Bowie's "John I'm Only Dancing" from '86. Toward the end of the song, the singer Mark Burgess substitutes "Reg" (their guitarists name) for "John..."I'm only dancing." Incidentally, this could be a potential twofer, since the drummer's name was "John" also.

I'm pretty sure it's "I lost my harmonica, Albert." Mostly everyone knows this, but Paul is making fun of Bob Dylan, and Albert is Dylan's then-manager, Albert Grossman.

Even better is "Ramrod," where he simply says "Big Man!" going into the sax solo.

On "Eagles Live," either Don or Glenn says "Step on it, Joe" as Walsh prepares to deliver the final guitar solo in the song "Life in the Fast Lane."

On the '77 tour, Robert Plant would regularly cry out "Oh Jimmy... OH JIMMY!" just before Page would take his guitar solo in "Nobody's Fault But Mine."

Another one from the always sly Champion Jack Dupree, during the drum solo when he shouts out to Oliver Jackson, "Call Your Mother-In-Law!"

  14. Since the E Street Band reunion, Bruce seems to call out to Steven during concerts more than he ever did during Steven's first tenure in the band (75-81?).

    I like it!

I've read it was Roy Hallee, I had thought it was Paul Simon saying: "So long already, Artie"
on So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright.

  20. "go skydog!

The Hawk shouting to Duane Allman"

That is on Matchbox by Ronnie Hawkins, and I believe Hawkins also shouts King Biscuit's name.

Maceo - Soul of a Black Man

James Brown is practically in tears pleading Maceo Parker before his first killer sax solo:

"Get here quick and bring that funky licking stick"

One of the greatest tracks I have ever heard James Brown on.
