I think the technical term is "pre-bend and release" but "zoop" is a slide up to a given note, so maybe I haven't grasped the concept. Then there's the whammy bar depress to drop a tone, like the Chris Isaaks above.

It may not be a "zoop", but I like the beginning of T-Rex's Monolith.

!wow...I've never heard this version before, possibly a great zoop:

That reminds me of the opening to "I Feel Fine"...

I like that song but the opening doesn't really sound like a zoop. [using zoop with a straight face, feeling no fear]

I had thought that the terms "beef tongue" and "pork tongue" were routinely used to describe a full-bodied slide down the neck and up the neck (or maybe vice versa), but i am having trouble finding any references. I think I read this in Crawdaddy way long ago.

I just wanted to say that I knew exactly what the OP meant by "zoop" and that the first thought that came to my mind was "I Wanna New Drug".

I know there is a Hendrix song that does this, but my mind is blanking on it at the moment.

Meanwhile, here's a Muddy Waters song that starts with a very brief zoop that is repeated throughout the song:

Slim Harpo's original version has it, but the zoop is much more prominent in the Stones cover

How about "Siberian Khatru" by Yes...is that a "zoop" riff?

My best shot at a zoop, a perfect one, perhaps?. The James Gang-Do It.

    Zoop guitar riff, eh?

Like that character Jane Curtin used to play on SNL who pronounced "soup" as "zoop"?

Not quite, Siberian Khatru starts exactly the same as Jimi Hendrix's Hey Joe, mentioned earlier in the thread. It's an open E string with a D to E hammer-on on the B string, so not a bent string.
