Love Goes Where My Rosemary Goes takes me back to a teenage crush on Rosemary, naturally. To this day I think of her whenever I hear the song.

Whenever I hear "I honestly Love You" I'm sadly reminded of being twelve years old and hopelessly in love with Olivia Newton John.

And that b*tch wouldn't give me the time of day!

More seriously, "It's Sad to Belong" by England Dan and John Ford Coley always reminds me of adolescent crushes. I dunno what it is about those old sappy love songs that I wouldn't be caught dead listening to anymore...

It's a song that was apart of an adult relationship actually for me. Now if I could just remember the artists name or the song title. It has however left an indelibly pressed lyrics passage.

    "Will you recognise me
look my way, or walk on by me.
Rain keeps fallin', rain keeps fallin', down, down, down."

On the juvenile side...when I was 10 years old I had a severe crush on a cute little girl at summer camp. The song was Otis Reddings "Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay".

    "Once Upon a Time"/Dan Fogelberg

Every morning you wake up alone
And you shake up your soul
    But nothing stirs
So you take the love of whoever
    you please
But you can't find no reason
    For giving yours.
    'Cause, once upon a time
You held a love so strong and fine
That all the others simply don't compare
    She's always on your mind
    But once upon a time
    You had her there.
Drive into town 'most every night
On the chance that there might be someone
    Waiting for you
    You tell yourself you'll
    Give it your best
    Maybe settle for less
    But you never do.
    'Cause, once upon a time
You held a love so strong and fine
That all the others simply don't compare
    She's always on your mind
    But once upon a time
    You had her there.
Every morning you wake up alone
And you shake up your soul
    But nothing stirs
So you take the love of whoever
    you please
But you can't find no reason

    'Cause, once upon a time

I'm no Elvis fan, but 'Marie's the Name (of His Latest Flame)' always remind me of a girl, Samantha, I dated when I was a freshman in High School. She ripped my still beating heart out of my chest and served it to me on a platinum platter. '...and she had the longest blackest hair, the prettiest green eyes anywhere....' :( As young as I was, I still don't think I ever completely got over that one. Then Elton John's 'Your Song' reminds me of Eileen, whom I was involved with circa 1991. Man, she decimated me. I had to take off and live in Florida for 8 months to get over that one. I did actually write and record a couple of songs for her, that's why 'Your Song' always reminds me of her.:( The Cult's 'Fire Woman' takes me back to Debbie, my 'main squeeze' my senior year of High School. We sort of drifted apart after graduation. :sigh:

O, man. I just dug up some serious memories, and that's not even all the women who have broken my heart. :sigh: I think I gotta stop by the pub tonight and throw on Sea Change and Blood on the Tracks when I get home tonight. :sigh:

Dave, it's "Don't You (Forget About Me)" by Simple Minds

Won't you come see about me?
I'll be alone, dancing you know it baby

Tell me your troubles and doubts
Giving me everything inside and out and
Love's strange so real in the dark
Think of the tender things that we were working on

Slow change may pull us apart
When the light gets into your heart, baby

    Don't You Forget About Me
    Don't Don't Don't Don't
    Don't You Forget About Me

    Will you stand above me?
Look my way, never love me
Rain keeps falling, rain keeps falling
    Down, down, down

    Will you recognise me?
Call my name or walk on by
Rain keeps falling, rain keeps falling
    Down, down, down, down

    Hey, hey, hey, hey
    Ohhhh.....

    Don't you try to pretend
It's my feeling we'll win in the end
I won't harm you or touch your defenses
    Vanity and security

    Don't you forget about me
I'll be alone, dancing you know it baby
    Going to take you apart
I'll put us back together at heart, baby

    Don't You Forget About Me
    Don't Don't Don't Don't
    Don't You Forget About Me

    As you walk on by
    Will you call my name?
    As you walk on by
    Will you call my name?
    When you walk away

Here's mine, believe it or not:

    "Burning Bridges"--Mike Curb Congregation.

"All the burning bridges that have fallen after me
all the lonely feelings and the burning memories
everyone I left behind each time I closed the door
burning bridges lost for ever more." :(

OK, you musical brainiacs, a trivia question: "Burning Bridges" served as the theme song for what movie???

There is a killer new version of that song out now by Freedy Johnston.

My choice would be "Thorn Tree in the Garden" by Derek & the Dominos
although I read a recent interview with Bobby Whitlock where he explained that the song was about a dog.

    And I'm a cat guy...
    Peace

PS: Hey Dave: It was the Simple Minds! LOL

There are so many, but perhaps the one that best sums everything up, that really cut so deep when I first heard the lyrics, was this one from 1995:

Someone Else's Star (Skip Ewing, Jim Weatherly)

    Alone again tonight
    Without someone to love
    The stars are shining bright
So one more wish goes up
    Oh, I wish I may
And I wish with all my might
For the love I'm dreaming of
    And missing in my life

You'd think that I could find
A true love of my own
    It happens all the time
    To people that I know
    Their wishes all come true
    So I've got to believe
There's still someone out there who
    Is meant for only me

I guess I must be wishin'
    On someone else's star
    It seems like someone else
Keeps gettin' what I'm wishin' for
Why can't I be as lucky as those other people are
I guess I must be wishin'
    On someone else's star

I sit here in the dark
And stare up at the sky
But I can't give my heart
    One good reason why
    Everywhere I look
    It's lovers that I see
    Seems like everyone's in love
    With everyone but me

    (Chorus)

Why can't I be as lucky
    As those other people are
Oh I guess I must be wishin'
    On someone else's star

    "Beginnings"--Chicago.

It was the summer of 1972. I was at a one-week church camp and enrolled in the "Creative Drama" class, where I met a beautiful, talented, creative, and very smart Korean-American girl. I was 14 1/2 and she was 15, but to me she looked 18 and I was sure she'd never give me the time of day.

Wednesday night there was a hurricane warning and an intense thunderstorm. Just before we were all sent back to our cottages, I got up the nerve to go make conversation with her (rough weather, eh? etc.). The conversation went well. It continued the next day, before and during and after our class, and continued the next night. I held her hand as we walked to the evening activity, and tried not to faint (while she was there, anyway).

Friday night after the evening's activities were through, we walked along the beach, and I had my first real kiss.

Later we stayed up way past curfew, just talking and holding hands.

Saturday she rode back on my church's bus as far as Raleigh, North Carolina, where she met her parents. She kissed me goodbye, and we agreed we'd meet again in three years when she came back from Korea. But we never saw each other again.

All this time I was listening to "Beginnings," trying to fix it in my mind so it would trigger a full set of memories and bring back this moment to me. I wanted to feel this way forever.

It worked, so this is not a song I can listen to very often. But sometimes when I want to smell the ocean air, be 14 1/2 again, and remember that first kiss, I'll listen.
