"Ghosts" by Randy Newman reminds me of my father. Beautiful, brilliant song; heart-rending listen.

Many good memories of dear relatives and loved ones that have unfornately passed away.
But atleast can cherish those precious memories and some songs give solace.
I could have put maybe few songs or even more here, but I decided to go and put only one that brings me memories of the dear relative.
My uncle, passed away too early due to cancer and I just so hope that he would here with me now.

The Doors - Roadhouse Blues (Live in New York 1970)
I could have picked almost any version of this song, but decided to go with the live-version this time.
It was in fact my uncle's favorite song from The Doors and also he was one of the reasons I ever discovered The Doors.

The Zombies' 'Time Of The Season' or any of their songs from the "Odyssey & Oracle" LP for that matter.

  12. My Mother was singing When Will I See You Again (The Three Degrees) to me as I left after spending my birthday at the family home. She died that night.

'The Wild Ones' by Suede strangely reminds me of the period when my Grandmother was on her last legs (recently). Brett Anderson repeats '......if you stay' which does it for me . Ever since her death, hearing it evokes pretty raw emotions.

Thats incredibly sad. My condolences to you.

  15. Thanks for that but there's no need. It was a long time ago, 1994.

Time heals but I do try to avoid hearing the song. I'm sure everybody who has or will contribute to this thread will feel the same.

Absolutely. The plus side for me is that you don't hear 'The Wild Ones' that often, but I'd rather not. (As I said in another thread on here) Abide By Me has the ability to transport me to ten funerals at the same time; now there is one song I can't bear to hear.

The whole Sweet Thursday album reminds me of a dear friend who passed away after I had lost contact with her (but I did send her a letter a few weeks before her passing that made her day). She had been the principal of a school where I was the music teacher, and one day she sent me a cake shaped like a grand piano (with a plastic keyboard that I still have). I was playing Sweet Thursday for the first time while eating a piece of the cake, and to this day it reminds me of her (and the taste of the cake). I still listen to it. It brings back fond memories of when she was a part of my life.

but at least you have that as a memory. i think that is what music was/should be/is. .... communication, a story, a connection. sadly missing in a lot of music these days.

There are many songs that can bring me too tears - depending on my mood.
But "Never be the same" by Illusion (Jane Relf, James McCarthy et al) always reminds me of my beloved partner who passed away 3 years ago...
Just thinking of this song makes me cry.

"Sophisticated Lady" from REO Speedwagon's first album was my little brother's favorite tune. He was killed in 1982 and I still can't listen to it. Great song, too. <sniff>
