"Owner of a Lonely Heart" was way different from previous Yes songs when it came out.

More Than Words by Extreme is a classic example.

Likewise - "Buddy's Song" from the same album.

That song sounds much more suited to Jeremy Spencer's self-titled LP (which was actually just a Fleetwood Mac album anyway, Jeremy given top billing and creative control).

I don't think many people would peg this as Tommy Keene:

If their voices weren't a giant giveaway, Insane Clown Posse almost pulled off a very uncharacteristic country-rock track here.

This certainly doesn't sound like any Queen song I've heard. Sounds like Zeppelin.

Stick this in yer "I get knocked down, but I get up again." :p

Alright, this is cheating - this is unrecognizable, unless you're familiar with latter-day Chumbawamba when they focused largely on music like this.

Don't know much about Eurythmics but this sounds far removed from anything that I've heard from them.

It's Wonderful doesn't sound much like the Rascals; certainly not their other hits.

Top Rank Suite from Octave sounds nothing like any other Moody Blues that I know of.

A lot of the White Album sounded very unBeatleslike at the time.

  19. The first time I heard the song 'Hold The Line' by Toto in 1978, I thought it was Boz Scaggs.

  21. The first portion of this song I heard on the radio back in 1977, was the 'Don't Stop The Music' chorus. I was convinced it was ELO.

I never felt Achilles Last Stand sounded like a Zeppelin song.
It's a great track but stylistically it is very different than any other recording by them.

Fire in the City by the Grateful Dead is pretty unique in their catalog, sound-wise. I remember tricking some of my punk buddies into high school into saying they liked the song before revealing the artist. Good, pointless times.

Our Wedding by Crass is unlike anything else they recorded. Which was the point, since it was a prank.
