What are some songs that have really punchy drums? Drums that you can feel in your chest. I judge a stereo system by how hard the drums punch in the chest. I want that concert experience.

I'll start with a couple of tracks:

    Free - "Mr. Big" (intro)

You can really feel that bass drum punching you smack dab in the chest! For a recording from 1970, the drums sound amazing.

Pink Floyd - "Not Now John"

Really punchy drums on this track. I have the old Japanese pressing of The Final Cut on CD, and I love to crank it!

Zep's "When the Levee Breaks" and the response to Plant's call of "drop down" near the end of "Custard Pie".

One of the first examples of drums being up front/in your face to me was Charlie Watts in the intro to "Honky Tonk Women"....even when played today on oldies stations, still sounds good:wiggle:

Although I can't stand to ever hear it again, Rush's "Tom Sawyer" does have beautifully recorded drums...

If you are familiar with the band High on Fire and their first album The Art of Self Defense, there are several songs where drummer Des Kensel's playing almost literally jumps out of your stereo system. The song "Blood From Zion" is a great example of what I'm talking about. "Fireface" is another.

Agreed. And if there's a song with a more in your face drum sound than "When The Levee Breaks" I must hear it immediately!

They were the masters of hittin-in-your-chest drums. 'Pour Some Sugar On Me', 'Let's Get Rocked', 'Photograph', 'Animal', 'Rocket', 'Armageddon it', 'Rock of Ages', etc, etc.

In fact everything produced by Mutt Lange have great punchy drums. AC/DC 'Highway To Hell' sounds like hell!

If these drums don't punch you in the chest then your system sucks :uhhuh:

And of course, 'Intruder' from his former bandmate :agree:

How about Keith Richards' 2 solo albums, both co-produced by drummer Steve Jordan?

The whole Golden Earring SACD stereo programme of Naked III live at the Panama. You can have the concert experience in your lounge room. I don't know if the neighbours approve though.
Note: this is the stereo not the m-ch which does not have the same live punch.
The CD programme is also OK.

Noah Levy's holographically well-recorded drum kit on the Honeydogs' Here's Luck and 10,000 Years. May be the best-recorded rock drums ever.
