Yes - Leave It -- the track is all lovely a capella vocals and bongos until two extremely loud cracks of the snare/bass drums before the chorus kicks in. As a wee lad I would turn up the stereo real loud for that bit.

Check about 1:00 into this video:

One of my favorite CD remixes was on the excellent CD Rock Artifacts Vol. 2, where they remixed "It Never Rains in California," and I swear, there's a bass drum hit on the chorus that goes to 20Hz. I've never heard low end like this on an early 1970s pop song. I think it was always there on the master, but normally it had been rolled off at like 80Hz or 100Hz.

    :agree: That particular song, yes.
Gerry Conway's drumming is very dynamic and his kit is recorded very well.
Making a muscular and weighty sound.

I like Bonham's intro to Zeppelin's, "The Rover."

Engineered by the young Nick Launay, who was inspired by the drum sound on Peter Gabriel III (Melt)... Phil Collins ended up hiring him after hearing this album to help with Face Value! This is my fav example of the 80s "gated reverb" thing done to absolute perfection! If this doesn't make you feel like that guy in the Maxell ad, your system is broken...
    How about Hypnotized!

Hypnotized is a good one, but if you've got a really good subwoofer nothing hits as low and hard like the drum in Emerald Eyes

Same album, but I was thinking Panama.
    Cozy Powell on Rainbow's Stargazer...possibly.
I don't think anyone had the heft and weight of Bonham. Ian Paice is brilliant, but he has a much lighter, more deft touch with bounce and swing.

:) Same thing happened to me.......about 20 times the same comment!!!
Panama by van Halen is great as is Hot F.Teach but if you're looking to buy a pair of 'rock' speakers don't go past trying out Chinatown by Thin Lizzy....then you'll see something punch you in the chest.
Some of these replies are a bit lame in regards to "drums that punch you in the chest"
