It’s hard to explain in just the thread title, but, for example: Stevie Wonder, Boogie on Reggae Woman — not reggae Ted Nugent, Wango Tango — not a tango Stooges, LA Blues (probably a lot like this that aren’t really blues) etc. (I’m not sure what to make of “nice try” songs like Classical Gas or the James Gang Funk 49 or the Clash Overpowered by Funk.) I guess there are albums that fit too, like Jazz by Queen or This Is Hardcore by Pulp. Others?
Dylan's "Ballad of a thin man"..............is a ballad but his "Polka dots and moonbeams".................isn't a polka.
Most songs with the word "Dance" in the title are not dance songs. Husker Du's "Metal Circus" is not a metal album.

The tracks on Ashra's New Age Of Earth bear no useful resemblance to new-age music in the modern yoga/meditation 'background accompaniment' sense, but then the title was thought up before new-age had become a recognised, named genre.
